My deepest condolences to Mr and Mrs Foley, Gillian, Laura, family and friends. I hadn't seen Jennifer for many years, but hoped we would catch up someday. In the process of looking for a way to get in touch I learned the sad news of her passing. I was very moved to read stories of her generosity, empathy and sense of fun, and to see that she was loved by so many good people. Jenny was a wonderful friend and I will always treasure the memory of her kindness, cleverness and humour.
My sincere sympathies to Laura, Gillian, Mr & Mrs Foley and all your family on the passing of Jennifer. May she rest in peace. Thinking of you all at this very sad time.

Gillian, deepest condolences from Anna and myself on the passing of your sister Jennifer. May she rest in peace.
So sorry John, Joan and Family to hear of the terrible loss of your daughter Jennifer. May she rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to Ms Foley's family and friends. She was the most amazing teacher: weird, wonderful, funny, witty, and most importantly always kind.
I remember before the LC I was panicking and the week before exams I decided to study an extra poet to what we had covered in class. I got in touch with Ms Foley to ask for her advice on what poems to include. Rather than simply assuring me that what we had covered would absolutely be sufficient (of course it was) and that I was overthinking (obviously), she called me immediately and spent the next hour chatting through the key points that I should include for that poet and calming my nerves. It was an act of kindness that I still think about almost 10 years later.
The time and care she took with everyone will never be forgotten. I hope she knew the huge impact that she had on each one of us that was lucky enough to enter into her classroom.
She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

My deepest sympathies to Jenny's parents, sisters and friends on her very sad passing. I didn't know her well, but from across the staffroom, always thought she had a unique presence and an air of devilment that made me want to know her better. Her intelligence and wit were very evident from the brief conversations we had. The beautiful comments left by former pupils don't surprise me one bit. Rest in peace Jenny, I hope you knew how gifted you were, and how obviously loved, and appreciated you were as a teacher.
So sorry for your loss John and Joan. So shocked to hear about your daughter Jennifer. Out thoughts and prayers are with you all at this terrible time.
Sincere and deepest condolences to John and all the Foley family on your inestimable loss

Sincere condolences to John, Joan, Laura and Gillian on Jennifer’s untimely death. Jennifer was a wonderful colleague, who had a great sense of humour and brightened up the staff room every day. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
On first sight I was struck by Jenny's smile. Warm, all seeing, without judgement.
As I got to know her ( mainly by discussing philosophy) I enjoyed the immersive experience if her wit and humanity ripple around us both.
My sympathies to Jenny's parents, sisters and loyal friends on the loss of a kind person who will never be forgotten

Sincere condolences to the Foley family on Jennifer's passing. I knew Jennifer in Loreto and was always in awe of her immense creative talent. I always thought I'd get the chance to say these things to Ms Foley, to really thank her for her time, energy and support. It's heartwarming to read the condolences of her other students and I feel very honoured to have been her pupil and hope to be able to bring even some small part of Ms Foley's magic to my own teaching now. My deepest condolences go to her parents, her sisters (who she frequently mentioned) and her friends at this time. My condolences also to her colleagues. It was also so lovely to hear from some of her fellow teachers at her service, in particular Ms Connolly whose speech was so moving.
Ms Foley was a powerful, solar-system of a person and has left an immense void, but also an unquantifiable, positive ripple effect on all those who knew her. Thank you Ms Foley.

She never condescended to anyone, she looked us in the eye, she so earnestly discussed with us these incredible works of literary art so that when you were in her classroom you didn't feel that you were inferior, on the periphery or sidelined. When you were in her class you were at the centre of the world. That was her magic. Her teaching went beyond the curriculum, grades, or points. Her teaching made you reflect on what it was to be a person in this world, on the human condition itself, and she made us all feel so worthy of grappling with the big, unanswerable questions posed by great writers across the centuries. And that there was meaning in the grappling. And she did it all with such ease, with her grounded eloquence, her playfulness, her infinite kindness. Her teaching was an art.

I've been reflecting on my time as a student of Ms Foley's for some time now, the last few years in particular, especially since I've become an educator myself. I find it difficult to fathom just how wonderful she was.
Her passion for literature was only rivalled by her commitment and dedication to her students. She had an uncanny, almost cosmic ability to make everyone in her classroom feel seen, heard and empowered. It wasn't easy to be a young woman growing up in the mid 2000s and I really feel that Ms Foley understood this and showed us every day that you could be yourself because she was always herself - her humour, wit, style (a suave, unimitable soft-grunge that was all her own) She was cool, she was authentic and she was wonderfully weird. She blew us away - in particular those of us who were also artistic and weird and struggled to find validation.
We were all aware she possessed this unworldly intelligence but we were never intimidated because her greatness was never contingent on making anyone else feel small.

Deepest condolences and sympathy to Ms Foley’s family and friends. The news has greatly saddened me. I had Ms Foley for Leaving Cert English in St. Leo’s and I will forever look up to her and remember her fondly. She had time for everyone in class and treated everyone’s point of view as worthwhile. She has so much passion for the subjects she taught and pushed us all to think independently and to build our own unique views on everything that we studied. I looked forward to every class I had with her. Such a beautiful and kind soul, someone who genuinely cared for people and had time for everyone. She was so refreshingly authentic and sincere - a true individual. Her smile was contagious and lit up the room and the world was a better place with her in it. May she rest in peace ❤️
