My deepest condolences to Jerry's family. Jerry was a wonderful colleague and he will be greatly missed by us all and by the team at the Embassy in London.
Sincere sympathy to Jerry's family on his very sad passing.

As a fellow Limerickman exiled in London who loved sport, our paths were bound to cross. He always had a warm embrace at the embassy and I was lucky to attend many events there and elsewhere with him. From playing the spoons at a Munster away game in the South of France, to a sneaky pint after an embassy event, Jerry always had a story to tell and was at the heart of the merriment.

He will be very sadly missed. RIP Jerry

Geraldine and I send our deepest sympathy to Dympna and to all Jerry's family and friends on his untimely passing. We had the great good fortune to get to know Jerry during our posting to the Embassy in London where he was a mainstay of the mission. He showed great kindness and support to us both. He was a truly decent man, great company, with a lovely sense of humour. He will be missed by all who knew him. Deepest condolences to Dympna,John,Brendan, Brothers JohnJoe, Mike,James, Sisters Bernie and Hannah and the Extended Scannell Family on the very sad passing of Jeremiah. We have been friends from our school days and looked forward to Jeremiah’s visits to Abbeyfeale where we would discuss Ireland ,Munster and Abbeyfeale RFC performances. We played some underage rugby together for Abbeyfeale so there was always plenty to catch up on. Jerry also had a great love for Limerick GAA , whether it was Limerick Hurling or Football or Fr Casey’s Football Clubs progress in the County Championship. The last time I had the good fortune to meet Jeremiah was at a Fr Casey’s Football Game with his brother Mike to support his nephew Martin who was playing. I wasn’t to know then that would be the last time I would meet my old great friend. Jeremiah will be greatly missed by his Family his work colleagues and his great circle of friends. He made a huge impression on those people who were lucky to have crossed his path. Jeremiah was a true gentleman and one of a kind. His likes will not be seen again. Rest in Peace my friend.

Our deepest sympathy to Dympna, John and Brendan, and all of Jer’s immediate family, also to his sisters and brothers, and to all of the extended Scannell and Mann families.
For more than thirty years I was honoured to be regularly invited to functions at the Irish Embassy, but by far the greatest privilege of those evenings, for me, were the many occasions on which Jer and I would repair to the Horse and Groom pub around the corner for a few drinks, and sometimes for a few more! Often a number of his colleagues would join us and I can concur with all of the beautiful tributes already expressed, as one couldn’t fail to appreciate just how popular Jer was with them.
Jer was a brilliant raconteur who excelled at skilfully regaling any gathering in a hugely entertaining manner. His engaging storytelling, even more so when he spoke of home long ago, various characters and events, could captivate anyone in his company. He was the perfect blend of seanchaí, historian and comedian. He was also the master of the one-liner and would readily have one on the tip of his tongue, quick as lightening, and sometimes as dangerous, for any scenario! They were magical evenings and halcyon times.
A number of people expressed the sentiment earlier that ‘they don’t make them like Jer anymore’. That’s for sure.

Once again, our hearts go out to all of Jer’s family and friends.

May Jer Rest in Peace xxx
