It was very sad to hear of Jerome's death. My sympathy to his immediate family and all my Murphy cousins. Sadly, I hardly saw Jerome since teenage days, being overseas, but I remember him as a great and kind character. And I appreciated not long ago, when my wife Rae died, that he phoned me in NZ to lend his support.

Condolences to Ann and her children. I have many fond memories of my uncle, both when enveloped by the spirit of merriment and during more subdued moments. Jerome was equally adept at both. Though I didn't know him to be a sailor, I nevertheless witnessed his expert navigation of the high Cs on many occasions.

Jerome’s passing had the semblance of a Shakespearean tragedy in the lives of my family members . They were cast under the spell of the Murphy ritual for almost forty years -memorably Jerome signing off on the night with “ the coast of Malabar”. I want to express my sincere sympathy to Anne and her family and to convey our appreciation and affection for the man who is gone.Tomorrow we will come “ to bury Caesar and to praise him…….”So long for now genial friend in the hope that one day we will meet again and begin anew the fun we loved in Hades. RIP
