Jerry was a very experienced and dedicated teacher, with the then Co. Kerry VEC and he taught in Killarney, Cahirsiveen, Waterville and Kenmare. Jerry brought all of the skills that he acquired in the Construction Industry back to the classroom, teaching Woodwork, Technical Graphics and Construction Studies. He had a great teaching style of getting his message across to his students. Jerry also made a major contribution to the training of school teams and as well as being a selector with Kerry Voc. teams.

To Geraldine and family and all the Riney family I remember so well. I was so sorry to learn of Jerry's passing.
I have many fond memories of my young days in Kenmare and, though Jerry was a little older, I could call him a great friend. Going to his dad's wake in Killowen. Going down to the Bull Rock with him and a gang in John's trawler. Nights in the Silver Slipper when the "top guns" were Jerry, Paudie Finnegan, Dessie Kidney and I was futher down the pecking order. Evenings in Bessie's, where Jerry's humour and mischieviousness were legendary as well as his respect and care for herself. He was a smashing guy, a charmer and a gentleman.

His sense of humour, quick wit and his interest in the art of meaningful conversation was immeasurable...not to mention Jerry's ability to sing beautiful old Irish ballads. It is forty years ago since my leaving but I have fond memories of Jerry in Waterville tech as he taught me construction skills and guided me through the exams ( FairPlay to his patience) he was a gentleman and a kind teacher who loved a bit of crack. I had the privilege of sharing a lot of happy and enjoyable times with Jerry through our involvement with the Kerry Vocational Schools football teams. He had a lovely sense of humour and was great company. I met him by chance at the pier in Kenmare on the last Sunday of March and we chatted for over an hour.
I was shocked to hear of his passing. He was a true gentleman and always a pleasure to meet.
