I have only just heard of Jim's death. I am quite shocked and very saddened. I had tried to contact him recently.
I first met Jim at Sunday World and we frequently socialised. We kept in contact and enjoyed long meandering phonecalls every few months.
I had invited him on several occasions to join me in Spain for a holiday. He said it would be difficult but he would persevere with the idea. He was a great friend. I will miss him terribly.
My sincere condolences to all his family.

Gavin McClelland.
To all Jims Family and Friends, I am so sorry to hear of Jims passing.

I always thoroughly enjoyed his company and we used to have great chats about all sports

Sincerest condolences to all his family & friends at this very difficult time
I'm so shocked and deeply saddened to hear this news. Jim and I met on the very first day of college -we were the first people each other met in Maynooth, and the friendship was sealed. Jim was his own man, charming, warm, so kind-hearted, and great company. He was indeed the Mayor of Maynooth. We reconnected in 2010 through FB and then emails and calls, and it was as though time had stood still. His resilience and perseverance in dealing with the worst limitations of his injuries was incredible. Jim has a will and a way. We hadn't connected since the end of Covid, and I'm just so sorry to hear of his passing. He lived many lives in one, and I feel so grateful to have known him. Anam an tasicéalaí, ní bheidh leithéid arís ann. My heartfelt condolences to Jim's mother and the extended Clancy family.
My deepest sympathies to Jim’s family. He was a true gentleman, kind, funny and smart. I had the pleasure of knowing Jim during our Post Grad year in Maynooth (Kairos). We were a small class - a quirky and curious group - who quickly formed a bond, worked hard and played harder. Jim was like the Lord Mayor of Maynooth, everyone knew him.
I met Jim in more recent times in Ennis, he was delighted with his new home, close to town centre. We were plotting a Kairos reunion party there. Taken too soon. RIP Jim, a beautiful soul.

Sincere sympathy to all the Clancy family on the death of Jim. May he Rest in Peace. Thinking of you Gillian and all your family at this sad time.
So sad to hear this news. I shared a flat with Jim in Maynooth and then reconnected years later (when I read a report he’d written in the Irish Times on a hockey match). I was full of admiration for how he dealt with his injuries and how he embraced life. I’ll remember his adventurous spirit, whether it was trying to walk across Europe before his accident or trying to sail on a tall ship after it. I’ll miss him.
Desperately sad to hear of Jim's passing. Like many others I knew Jim as an undergraduate in Maynooth, and then more closely a few years later when we did a Communications course, just before he launched on his all-too-brief career in journalism. He was one of the good guys. He bore his later burdens with fortitude. I remember him fondly today in his light brown duffel coat doing his thing around campus in MU. Sincere condolences to his family. RIP Jim.
I was very sorry to learn of Jim's passing. I fondly remember our time together in Maynooth University, and the many times we met up afterwards in Dublin.

Deepest condolences to all of Jim's family at this sad time.
It is with great sadness that i find myself writing condolences for Jim's passing.
My thoughts are with his Family and Friends in this difficult time.
I will miss having chats and banter with you Jim, although it had been too long since our last conversation.
Rest In Peace my Friend.
So saddened by this news. Jim was lovely. Remember my first bus ride from Maynooth to Dublin as 1st years and we chatted about the world and his father all the way in. Had lost touch but really rattled all the same despite the years. Sincere sympathies to his family. Go on the Banner

Sincere condolences on the passing of Jim. I am shocked and saddened to hear this news. I had the privilege of knowing him during our time at college in Maynooth. Many chats and laughs were had as people were drawn to the wonderful person that Jim was. May his gentle soul now rest in peace.
I am deeply saddened to hear of Jim's passing. We knew each other in Maynooth when we were both young students making sense of the world. He was always a distinctive figure and I enjoyed hearing of his post-university adventures, career and overcomings.

My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. I hope peace is his companion wherever he lies now.
Deepest condolences on the passing of Jim. A pal from our student days in Maynooth and always a pleasure to be around. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to the family on the passing of Jim. I remember his bubbly energy, big smile and gentle personality from our college days in Maynooth as if it were yesterday. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Condolences to Jim's family and friends. I knew Jim as a student in Maynooth. I remember him as a gentle man. The last time I spoke with him many years ago he was having a quiet drink in Grogans the castle lounge in Dublin and telling us he was working as a sports journalist. May he rest peacefully.

Condolences to the Clancy family on Jim's untimely death. He was a lovely colleague at The Irish Times.
I had the honour of working with Jim in the Irish Times sports department before my retirement in 2013 . . . he was a popular figure who was highly regarded by a loyal staff whether they were front desk security or the office cleaning ladies . . . you always knew Jim was in the building as you would hear the heartiest of greetings as he made his way from the lift to his designated desk on the third floor and then second after our move to the newsroom . . there was never a dull moment when sharing a shift with him and laughter was usually the order of the night . . . he livened up many a long and dreary session with some hilarious anecdotes about childhood days in Kilrush or student days in Maynooth . . . we were all devastated after the accident that left him confined to a wheelchair but typical of the man and his indomitable spirit he battled back bravely and returned to the office sporting a walking stick which he banged on the desk if some poor unsuspecting colleague needed his wings clipped . . . it was a Herculean effort that left workmates in awe at his bravery and fortitude . . . Jim had a smile for everyone, a heart of gold, unselfish to a fault and always kind . . . he will be missed by many . . . rest in peace my dear friend.
My sympathy to the entire Clancy family and all who knew and remember Jim fondly. I only heard belatedly of his sad passing today. I got to know Jim from the time he came to work in Dublin as a freelance journalist and I later worked with him in both the Star and then the Irish Times. Gillian I am so sorry to hear of your very sad loss. My sincere condolence to you, your mother and all your family at this very difficult time. Thinking of you. Bridgette
My deepest sympathy to Jim's mother, Margaret, to his brothers and sisters, to the extended Clancy - Haugh Families and those who cared, on the death of your beloved Jim. As a classmate in the C.B.S. secondary school in Kilrush, Jim stood out - he had a super sized presence and he wasn't shy. One could say he was a model of how to be fully present in the world, whether with his attention grabbing peroxide/permed lion like mane, how eloquently he spoke or how he walked with poise and purpose. Jim always seemed present, engaging, full of life and energy, passionate and he certainly energised people. When he was working in Dublin, we met up occasionally and then later when he was in hospital I called to see him - the doctors, physios and nurses there were very good to him - one or two in particular touched his heart and he really appreciated them. Even then, there was a fire in his spirit. After moving to West Cork, Jim and I would have the occasional calls and he loved to tell me in great detail what was going on, whether that was about his local life or even about another friend who also lived Switzerland - Jim loved the detail of life and he wanted to share that passion with people around him. Jim and I last spoke in September 2024 when he was living in Ennis - he had made friends there as he did everywhere he went. Thank you Jim for making the effort to stay in touch over the years. Rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy margaret n all the family on the sad loss of jim rip
