Another stalwart of Old Drogheda gone😔 Rest In Peace, Jim Corcoran, you were a true Gentleman.
I discovered your shop many many moons ago when I was a little girl... you sold the magical stuff of my dreams - horse tack!!🤩🐴 as well as other pet supplies and all things gardening. Many's a Saturday I would wander around your shop, wishing... and when my parents realized that my horse obsession was here to stay, they saved up the king's ransome of £five pounds (!!!), and bought me my first riding hat. The excitement! Jim was very helpful ensuring it was a correct fit.
A few Christmasses later, and I had a 'Pony' annual for Christmas; there was a competition in it, the task was to correctly name a number of horse bits. I knew them all except one, so I chanced in to see if Jim would know what it was. To his utmost credit, he treated me with nothing but kindness and courtesy, and he brought out two or three catalogues and together we identified the bit. I have never forgotten his time and interest.
I have always dropped into Corcoran's over the years for dog food and gardening supplies, and dog training, there was always a very friendly and helpful service, and good chat. Jim's sound old-fashioned customer service will be missed. Reading all the messages on here is testament to Jim's decency.
Sending sympathies to all of Jim's family and loved ones.

So sad to hear of Jim’s passing. An absolute gent and family friend whom I have very fond memories of. The duo of Jim and Mabel would always be welcoming to my frequent tours of Corcorans of a Saturday as a little girl when visiting my grandad (Jimmy Snr) next door in Kennedys Motorcycles. May he rest in eternal peace with Mabel and have a long overdue catch up with JK.
