Dear Agnes, Máire, Éilis, Tadhg and Séamus I'm so very sorry for your loss. I've spent ages trying to think of just the right words to put up here ... but Jim was a man of words, he would know that there aren't the perfect set of words that will make it better or change anything. I can only offer my love and support, and hold on to very fond memories of such a kind, funny and caring man. He really cherished his family and passed that on to all of you too, what a special gift. An absolute gentleman, one of the few who treated All his pupils at St.Paul's College with respect and dignity.A wonderful teacher and I was very lucky to be in his class for 5th and 6th year. May he rest in peace.

A Prince of a man will be hugely missed. He had such are rare talent of no matter who was in a room you would always want to gravitate to his corner where his wit & roguish charm would ensure a memorable evening. His passing has me remembering the great journeys to matches being in the back seat being endlessly entertained with stories from yesteryear often more than the match itself. Jim taught me in St Mary's in Newmarket in the '60, a great Irish teacher.
He also game me a lift to Dublin in 1970 as I was starting out in my working life and gave me advice on driving and life on route.

It was a privilege to know Jim for many years in St Paul's. He was peaceful and placid, related easily to everybody, a gentleman to his fingertips, and a professional educator who was always human and humorous and wholesome to all who encountered him. Sincere sympathy for his family and many friends in Cork and Dublin who will miss his presence in so many ways.

Our very sincere sympathy to Agnes and all the family. I taught with Jim in St Pauls for many years. He was a real gentleman and a committed teacher. His grá for the Irish language was evident.
The last time I saw Jim was at Biarritz airport. He was on his way with Agnes to join his son and family in St Jean de Luz. He was really looking forward to his holiday and in good form.
I’m sorry I could say goodbye in person but I was out of the country.
