So sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He was a true gentleman & I served with him on the Pine Valley residents assoc. Afterwards when I would meet him he would love to chat. He was always smiling.

Rip Jim.
Please accept our sincere sympathy on Jim's passing. We were sorry belatedly to hear the sad news. No more gardening chats across the back garden wall.
Jim had a huge influence on me in the late 60s as we strove to establish Irish Eastern Branch by recruiting all journalists in Louth, Meath, Monaghan and Cavan. A kind and thoughtful mentor and leader, he was a true socialist and a staunch trade unionist. He was fearless in confronting poor pay and conditions, sometimes tolerated by new entrants and older men in isolated situations. I remember he often spoke fondly of Bridie, to whom, along with the rest of his family, I would like to extend sincere sympathy. David Lawlor

Deepest Sympathy to Bridie, Caroline, Deirdre, Colm & James. Delighted that I got the opportunity to see Jim in hospital recently. R.I.P Jim. From Patsi Dunne
Condolences to Jim's family. I will always remember him with great affection from the grim 1980s when he was such a support to us `pirates' in Sunshine Radio as we became NUJ members despite fierce resistance from then RTE colleagues. There was also his unflinching personal support for myself as a member of the NUJ Irish Executive for two years and in organising opposition to renewal of Section 31 of the Broadcasting Act in '86/87. The common Rossie factor helped, of course, though he was the more fortunate, having seen the old county win All Irelands in 1943 and 1944. RIP Jim...
To Deirdre, Bridie, Caroline, Colm and James....Sincerest condolences on Jim's passing. My memories of Jim from Weston Park and Pine valley are of a really happy, smiling and 'always in good form' Man. I was so delighted to catch up with him very recently and share old memories with both Bridie and himself. I hope you are all bearing up on such a sad occasion. RIP Jim.

Comhbhrón le Bridie, Deirdre, Caroline, Colm, Jimmy. Wonderful memories of Jim’s trips west to RnaG in the early days. Alongside Eddie Barret and Patrick Kinsella we got excellent training and mentoring. Tá laoch ar lár. Slán leat a chara.
With every good wish to the family from two Union members who remember jim both professionally and personally with great respect and, above all, affection for his wonderful personality and tireless energy.
A great man. Had respect of managements, courts and staffs across Ireland. He once sorted a difficult Farmers Journal dispute with a quiet, almost whispered informal chat in the corridor of the IFC.

Sad to hear of Jim’s passing. He was so helpful to us in the Cork Examiner when we were in the labour court many years ago. A real nice guy, may God take him to his eternal reward. To his family my sinsere condolences.
Jim personified all that was good about the NUJ, a great help in troubled times. Rest in peace Jim.

My sincere sympathy to the Eadie family on the passing of Jim RIP. I have many fond memories of Jim and of his tireless and dedicated efforts on behalf of NUJ members and journalists. On a personal level, I have much to be grateful to Jim for, in helping to further my journalistic career and pave the way for career advancement when I began working in the Publicity Department at Shannon Development in the early 1970s. I shall never forget the crucial role that he played at that time. May he Rest in Peace.

Jim was inspirational …. Called him for help in 1974 as a junior reporter in Armagh. He showed up the next day - all the way from Dublin and had our working hours/conditions sorted in two table thumping days….he was pure magic. I’m a life member of the NUJ and proud to have known Jim…RIP old friend.
My deepest sympathy to Bridie and all Jim's family.. Jim was a true gentleman and as committed a union comrade you could ever hope for.. from my earliest meeting with him as I battled as he did himself to become an NUJ member, to working with him on behalf of my colleagues in RTE, to eventually stepping into his huge shoes as Irish Secretary followimg his retirement, Jim was omipresent strong and unflinching in his committment and support .. Ní fheicimíd a leitheid arís.. Salud comrade!
My condolences to Jim's family. I have fond memories of his great work for the NUJ and local reporters during my involvement with regional newspapers in the 1980s and my time on the officer board of the Irish Eastern branch. May he Rest in Peace.
I had the pleasure of knowing Jim during my working life, and soon discovered all his passion and commitment for helping many journalists no matter where in Ireland they came . Although softly spoken he was no push over when it came to negotiations with employers. The union lost a great man when he retired. I never forgot him may he rest in peace.
My sympathies to Deirdre and family. Deirdre, you and I worked in the Irish Times together many years ago. I was saddened too to read of Antonio's death, I hadn't heard. Love to you and the rest of your family.
What a great trade unionist and friend he was! I worked with him when I was as FOC in The Irish Times 1977-1981 on house agreements and new technology, and then on the Irish Industrial Council in the 1980s. He had sound advice and support for us at chapel or branch level when organisation was established and strong and was a really powerful advocate for weaker or newer members of the NUJ. And he always saw this work as part of the wider labour movement. Deepest sympathies to his family.
My sincere condolences to Jim’s family, friends and former colleagues. He has left a lasting impact on the island of Ireland through his tireless advocacy for journalists.
Deepest sympathy to all the Eadie family on the sad passing of Jay may he Rest In Peace.
As a former member of Raidió Na Gaeltachta staff and onetime NUJ officer in Casla I have fond and grateful memories of Jim from the many negotiations he was involved in on our behalf. There was no one better to have on your side and you knew he wouldn't ever let you down. I think he felt at home with RnaG staff and he was very much respected by all. Condolences to the Eadie family especially remembering Bridie who often accompanied him on his many trips to Casla. May he rest in peace. Beannacht Dé leis.

My sincere condolences to Jim’s loved ones. He was one of the greats of the NUJ and an inspiration to me when I was on the Irish Council, the NEC and FOC in The irish Times.
Very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. My deepest condolences to all the family. He was a person of the utmost integrity. He was also principled to the same degree. Always a person of sage and sound advice. I benefited more than once from his wise counsel. Did so much to secure decent wages and conditions for thousands of journalists, in all branches of the media, over the years. RIP Jim.
Heartfelt sympathies to Eadie family on passing of dear Jim.
Loved to have the chat whenever we met.
A gentleman to the core.

Jim was an amalgam of all the superlatives. Courageous, determined and loyal. He was the personification of the NUJ for as long as many of us can remember. Deepest condolences to the Eadie family.
What words can do justice to this quiet giant of a man? Truly dedicated to the cause of labour, fearless in defence of working journalists, always kind, always great company. I have many memories of Jim as we drove the roads of Connemara for negotiations with RnaG, or waited late at night in the halls of the Labour Court for the outcome of arbitration over disputes at RTE. Good times, and good battles won.
We won't forget him. Peace, Jim.

Condolences to the Eadie family. Jim was a wonderful man, not just as a negotiator for his union members, but as a warm, approachable person. Though he had retired, he continued to participate in the union and was generous with his time and wisdom. Beidh tú inár gcroíthe go deo.
