I wish to extend my sympathy to the Mathews’ family on Jim’s passing. I have fond memories of the many laughs he provided us with. The world will truly be a duller place without him. May you rest in peace Jim.

We travelled abroad and worked together Jim on many occasions. It was always great fun and relatively easy going as your vast 30 years of work knowledge and your natural way of handling the situation made all challenges easily achieved and with no stress.
I’m shocked and sad to hear about your passing. Wherever you are I hope it’s a good place.

We are so sorry to hear of our Irish cousin's passing. Prayers for Jim, his wife and family.

For many years Jim supported the ABB organization in Spain, with great professionalism, his support implied the guarantee of success and he was always very willing to help us, whatever the circumstances.

I perfectly remember situations in which during the Christmas holidays, Jim left the comfort of his home to go to the office and give support that was vital for us.

I will always appreciate his kindness, his quick response to our queries and the security that he conveyed to us about his work. We knew that a job done by Jim was a job well done and fail-safe.

My contacts were Jim were mainly by telephone, but I also had the opportunity to share with him trainings in Columbus, and start-ups in Spain, and I always felt very happy at his side, and also I can say on behalf of ABB clients in Spain (many different papermakers), that he was a appreciated and respected person within this industry.

I wish to send to his family my most sincere condolences, as well as my deep appreciation to Jim, whom I will always remember not only as a wonderful co-worker but also as a great friend.

Susan and Family, working with Jim was an absolute pleasure and I am very sad to hear he is now gone from our lives. He was friendly, gentle yet witty with his words and eternally gracious, an exceptionally wonderful man. There are so many tender memories, he will be missed by all those lucky enough to know him, something that applies to a very special few, and very far between.

Jim & I worked together in one of my first projects. Great person with huge knowledge and professionalism. Always ready to help.

Jim and I started in ABB on the same day in September 1987 and spent most of our years there working side by side. I had huge respect for his knowledge and professionalism. We also shared a lot of laughs. Although a private person in many ways it was obvious that he was extremely proud of his family. Our deepest sympathies to Susan, Niamh, Sinéad, Jamie, Aidan and Conor, to Jim’s brothers and sisters and to all in the extended family. Jim will be missed by so many.

A few years ago looking at google maps thinking of my times in Louth I went down Toughter road and there caught in a moment in time was Jim in the front garden, Earlier when we used to visit regularly I remember Jim not as a working man with a lovely family but a a Happy young man going out to meet his friends in his new T-Shirt. He will be in my memory forever at home in Tougher Road
