I was deeply shocked to hear of Jim's passing. It was an honour to know him, work in the theatre with him. Jim had a wealth of knowledge which he shared with us all. The world is a sadder place without Jim

I was very sorry to hear the sad news of Jim's death. We met through working on the writer Frank O'Connor and Jim was the expert local historian on O'Connor and Cork. His knowledge of the topic was tremendous and he will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. RIP

His easy-going manner and treasure trove of anecdotes made him wonderful company. As an author,playwright, artist, local historian and advocate of Frank O'Connor he has left us with a wonderful legacy. It will be a long time before Cork will see his like again.

I have many happy memories of Jim. He was a man who could hold an audience. I remember one time, almost 30 years ago, when he telephoned me, asking would I go to Dublin with him as he had been invited on RTE’s Pat Kenny Show. The following morning, off we went on the train, full of excitement. In preparation, we began to go through his interview questions and answers, and as we were discussing them, Jim’s Shakespearean voice caught the attention of our fellow passengers and for the remainder of our journey, Jim held court in our carriage. By the time we arrived in Dublin, the passengers were glued to their seats, listening to Jim talking about Frank O’Connor, famous Cork characters and singing Cork songs – that was our Jim. Rest in Peace auld Pal.
