Jim Mountjoy

My deepest sympathies to the entire Mountjoy family on the passing of Jim.
As a young Meath man arriving to the Cork tourism scene in the late 90s, Jim was a most incredible mentor. He had the sharpest tourism & business mind and could always see solutions, not problems. He was a brilliant innovator & gave freely and generously of his time. More than anything, you always felt better after a chat with Jim Mountjoy.

My condolence to all Jim's family. I was honoured to have known Jim for many years and his advice was invaluable. He was a gentleman .
Jim started the Jazz Festival from his base in the Metropole Hotel because a Bridge Congress cancelled and he needed to fill the hotel. No one should ever forget it.

When I came to Cork in 1978 as a naïve youngster and was launched into the world of Travel Trade promotions, Jim Mountjoy was very kind to me, indeed he was one of my mentors. It was rare to work with someone who treated everyone with dignity and respect, had shrewd business acumen and yet a great sense of fun. A true gentleman and the world is poorer for his passing. May he rest in peace, perhaps he is smiling on us all even now.

of course, as a prime instigator of Cork’s renowned Jazz Festival! Went out of his way to ensure that those of us in Guinness (as the main sponsor of the event) had an appropriate investment return!! Indeed, he and his team went further,

Dear Pat and Family, Sincerest Sympathy on the passing of such a wonderful caring and loving family man, who having achieved so much not alone for his family, his employer and the City went on to make international fame for his pet project "Cork Jazz Festival". When his health disrupted his plans for life, the love of his life assisted in giving him strength to carry on till the Lord called Jim for his reward. He was a great neighbour and friend to so many.
