When I was a 2nd Lieutenant, and a stranger to him, he was then a senior Captain, who intervened promptly and wisely to save me from putting my foot in my mouth, and ending up, at best, having to apply for a "Fool's Pardon". I now send my condolences to his extended family on the loss of one thoroughly thoughtful and generous man. Solas na bhFlaitheas air.

Sincere sympathy to Lorla, and all the Young and Dawson families on the death of Seamus R.I P.
Like many others, I met Seamus through the Thomond Archaeological and Historical Society.
I will never forget our outing to Scattery Island in 2019. At 93, Seamus was only the second oldest person on the trip, but the oldest to walk all the way to the lighthouse. The tide was going out rapidly as we two stragglers returned to the pier, Irene Griffin was gesticulating wildly at us to hurry up before the ferry was beached, and I had visions of Seamus and myself spending the night on the island as I tried to figure out how fast a 93-year-old might be safely able to walk or run!
I enjoyed his stories of growing up in Cappagh, especially the first-hand account of the negotiations between his father Superintendent Dawson and Barney "Casement" O'Reilly over the reward for the capture of the latter's son Jack during WWII. Seamus assured me that Barney didn't want the reward as he thought that his son would be safer on the inside than on the outside, but the Superintendent persuaded him to take the money, which was invested in a hotel which Jack ran on his release when the war was over.
Deepest sympathy to all the Dawson and Higgins families.

Sincere sympathy to the Dawson family on the passing of Jim, a gentleman with a wonderful sense of humour who brightened up many an occasion with his enthusiasm and positivity which were infectious. He served for many years with my late father Dave O Grady Cobh in Spike, Ballincollig and Collin’s Barracks, and they had the height of respect and regard for each other.
