Now united in Heaven with his beloved wife, Teresa.
In recent years no trip to Letterkenny could be regarded as complete without a visit and a good chat with the legendary figure that was Jim Shields.
His happy and cheerful personality made visitors feel so welcome.
Jim took a keen and active interest in all the activities in his locality, but nothing was more important to him than his family - a family that he spoke of with such great pride.
He will be greatly missed by so many people and he will most certainly be greatly missed by both of us.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
