I got to know Jimmy about 25 years ago
I used to buy articles for my house from him.He was friendly and told me yarns he had with my uncle-in-law, Larry the Rat(Kiernan) from Mullinalaughter.On one .occasion he asked Larry why Mullinalaghta weren't winning titles.Larry's answer was typical.""Too much Guinness and Rock n Roll""
We also talked of history and the Greville Arms and Kitty Kiernan,Michael Collins.
Last October I gave him a lift from Aughnacliffe (Pauric Colum ceremony) to Granard.He was a great Granard man and l looked forward to chats with him

We worked together in the 60’s and 70’s in Joe Morriseys laying carpet and Lino. Jimmy always great to work with. Proud Granard gentleman and Irishman. We left for Canada but always kept in touch. He was one of the best and will be sadly missed but not forgotten. Our deepest condolences to Seamus, Kate, James, Tadhg, Emma and the extended O'Donoghue and Walsh families on the very sad passing of Jimmy, who is now happily reunited with his late wife, Sheila RIP, his sons, Joe RIP, John RIP and his sister Elizabeth RIP.
Jimmy left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him and on the community of Granard especially where he served several terms as an independent Town Commissioner along with his close friend, the late TP Smith, RIP.
He ran a successful hardware business in Granard and had unrivalled business acumen as he took an interest in having friendly chats with his customers and discussing matters other than what they were in his store to buy.
Jimmy was also a member of Longford Historical Society and took a great interest in the rich local history of the Granard and Ballinalee area, where his late wife Sheila hailed from.
I was glad to meet Jimmy and speak with him last November at the opening of the Rose Cottage visitor centre in Ballinalee when he seemed to be in good form.
May his good soul Rest in Perpetual Peace.
