I only this week heard of the sad passing of a legend.
I remember my first shift in London - Crossrail enabling works with the green Murphy in 2011. I walked into the canteen at breakfast time and here was four or five giants (all from Donegal) tucking into a full dinner - steak, spuds the lot, at 10am! I said to the Agent - "those boys will only be fit to sleep after that"!
Later that day I was introduced to Jimmy, who was running the gang. I quickly understood why they were eating steak at 10am - hard graft with the short handled shovel, within in a small shaft! Each knew exactly what the other was at without speaking, with Jimmy conducting all from above.
I got on really well with Jimmy and really enjoyed the stories he told. I met him a few years later, when he was working as a Tunnel Inspector for Crossrail circa 2017/2018, on the street at Highbury Corner - he told me he was getting to grips with the "auld computer" and the big hand above in the air!
Condolences to his wife and family. He will be missed. RIP Jimmy my friend.

Our deepest sympathy to Annamarie, Martin, Maryanne and extended family. Such wonderful and happy memories of Jimmy over the years. A great larger than life character who's wit and sense of humour left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was one of life's true gentlemen. Rest easy now Jimmy, the tunnels are all done.
