Our sincere sympathy Mary Ellen and family on the passing of JJ. We always enjoyed meeting him in Hillery’s Pub at the Willie Clancy festival, . He would be in his element – immersed in the music, song and stories. Like our Jimmy, you could take the man out of Clare but not Clare out of the man. No doubt they are having a musical re-union in heaven with all the other musicians that have gone before them.

Only saw it today that JJ was gone, one of Ireland 's salt of the Earth people. His enthusiasm for everything of the Irish tradition was infectious with his wiry head of hair was unique. His singing of ' noereen Bawn' always made a good night.

After hearing so much about JJ from Paul over the years, it was an absolute pleasure to have been able to meet him back in February of this year. He was certainly the main man of the house and his smile lit up the whole room. Although this will be a difficult time for you all, I’m sure you will all be able to look back on his life with some amazing memories and stories. May he now rest in peace. Truely heartbroken to be parting with JJ,the True King of all our Housedances!He lit up the room the minute he landed and we knew we were in for a great night!His lovely glide and lift as he danced the Plain Set with Mary Ellen was full of Rhythm,ye just moved as one,no doubt after a lifetime of dancing together!The Caladonian was always so special,too when dancing opposite his great pal,Paddy McMahon along with fellow Clare comrades John and Noirín Curtin!JJ credited my mother Biddy Pierce with bringing him up to dance for his 1st Set...there was no stopping him since TG!In recent times he joined the musicians playing the timber flute or tin whistle,bringing his own touch of Clare to the night!
May he now be Welcomed with open arms by Heavenly music and loving friends who have gone ahead!grá Bernie

Truly very saddened to hear this news today. JJ had the most wonderful smile ..and it was never far from his face.
Played music with jj for many years and always had a great laugh with him..he always had a story..and a lovely way of telling it.
I also looked after him in naas hospital years ago when he had a farm accident. A lovely man who will not be forgotten.
