Nuala Conor Oran & Cian, we are devastated that JJ has passed away. He was always present and made us laugh many times when watching sport on TV. His enthusiasm and good humour carried into his every day and he was always in good form. His dressing gowns were legendary and his tolerance for people when on the pitch as a referee admirable. He was a great husband, daddy, son, uncle, and friend. As you navigate the next months we are here. Sending lots of strength, love and hugs. X

Rest in peace JJ
JJ’s passing is the most devastating loss. Our 36 years of friendship began in our first week in UL, the first time we found a common excuse to skip the class or studying we were supposed to be doing.

Over the years in Limerick and Dublin, JJ and I at various times were housemates, roommates and (working in Munich) tent mates; we laughed, we got into scrapes, we made daft, unworkable plans and schemes.

His unmistakable laugh, grin, storytelling and slagging were the soundtrack to so many days and nights with our group of friends. He was the most loyal of people - to his friends, to his family, to his community - “that’s class” he’d say at any good news anyone had.

The loss to his family is almost unfathomable. Nuala, you and he were true soulmates, and to you, Conor, Oran and Cian, and to the Lafferty family and his extended family, we hope that the wealth of happy memories you have together, and seeing how he meant so much to so many, bring you some comfort at this saddest of times.

His memory will live long and strong with all who knew him.
Sincere condolences to Nuala and all the family. I had the great privilege of being in the same class as JJ in UL. A fountain of knowledge and more importantly a fantastic person. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of JJ’s passing. Sincere condolences to Nuala and his family.
JJ introduced this English person who’d never been to Ireland to a number of pubs in Dublin, brutal house parties, the best way to get in to Landsdowne Rd (school boy ticket procured from a tout 5 minutes before kick off), and the joys of major loss-making horse racing festivals in Cheltenham and Punchestown.
Many of my best memories involve JJ; he was such entertaining company, always happy and could talk about any sport (anything at all, really) with great authority!
It’s so sad that he has left us, but we will all long remember the good times.
Rest in peace, JJ.
Nuala and family, I was so sorry to hear of JJ's passing. He was a great character, always up for a laugh, and a true gent. Garvan & Maureen, Rathfarnham, Dublin.
Such sad news to hear. RIP JJ.

My deepest condolences to Naula, the boys and all the family.

I worked with JJ in ULG in the galway office. True gentleman. Never got too worried in the office about things! Have fond memories of how our calls at work would inevitably consist of 2 mins on a work question and much more time on hows our boys were doing in the GAA, and whether it be donegal or mayo for sam.

Im sure you all will have many happy memories of JJ that will help you through this tough time.
Condolences to JJ's family on his passing. Remembered fondly from our days in UL. An absolute gentleman from head to toe and a fantastic character. May his kind soul Rest In Peace.
Greatly saddened at the loss of JJ. Our condolences to all his family.
Deepest sympathy to all who loved Billy. Gone far too young. May he rest in peace.
I worked with JJ at ULG for several years. When I moved to Ireland, he was the colleague who helped me settle in and trained me at work. I truly valued his kindness back then and will remain grateful for it.

He was one of the most decent people I have known, a true gentleman and always smiling.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to Nuala and all the extended Lafferty family. It's many years since our UL days but the memory of JJ is still fresh; witty and good humoured, so relaxed that he seemed to be horizontal and a sportsman in every sense of the word. JJ and half of Donegal descended on our house in Cabra in September 1992 and nobody enjoyed that victory more than JJ.
