I always enjoyed chatting to Joan when I was visiting my mum in Middletown. We always gave each other a little wave every time I passed. She was a real lady and a great friend to my mum. She will surely be missed.

Joan will be fondly remembered by all of her past pupils as a kind and dedicated teacher who instilled a love of Irish music and singing to everyone in the school, church and in the wider community.

Joan dedicated many years of her life to our school community, and even after her retirement she continued to give back generously. She regularly visited to speak to classes, sharing her experiences of school life in the past, both as a pupil and later as a teacher. These visits brought history to life for our pupils and were always greatly enjoyed.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with her family and friends at this time.

Nothing was ever spared to ensure we competed admirably on stage. We have many memories from those years, which will always be fondly remembered.
