My sympathy to Joan's family Tim Claudia and Angela and her sisters and brothers. I am a friend of Eilish and knew she was well loved and appreciated. I saw the service on line and was moved by Angela's speech and the strong love for Joan. The music was so lovely.

Deepest sympathy to Tim, Angela and Claudia on the death of a much loved wife and mum! I can recall several occasions after our teacher training when out socially with Joan. She was full of life and join de vivre. A wonderful pianist, great actress and always full of confidence, ready to cause laughter and fun when we met. We lost touch over the years but my last meeting with her was visiting the relics of St Therese in her parish church. Her kindness and concern for others were evident when she shared the roses she had with her with myself and and another lady.

As a friend of Eilish I wanted to extend my condolences to Joan's husband Tim and their two beautiful girls. I followed the service online . I can see why Joan was so proud of her daughters. So moving. I remember Joan and her long red hair when I visited The Circle over the years. There was also a surprise picnic to the phoenix park one Sunday. Joan and Tim picked Eilish and I up and off to the Park with chicken salad. Delicious. I remember Tim looking so elegant in linen jacket and joan in a blue summer dress ( that detail I have to admit comes from Eilish and her unfailing memory for detail). Treasure the good moments shared .

What a great loss of a wonderful human being. She had an exceptional personality full of life and positivity.
Joan spent many days subbing for us in Loreto Junior Primary in Crumlin and loved every moment she was there.

Tim, Angela, Claudia and Joan's siblings... our sincere sympathies on Joan's passing. Regrettably, we were unable to make any of the ceremonies. God rest her and give comfort to those who loved her.

Our sympathy goes out to all who will miss Joan, her husband Tim and daughters and grandchildren first and foremost, but also her siblings alongside whom we grew up in Athlone, and the friends she made in her other life in Dublin.
Though we met rarely in those Dublin years we always had that shared childhood as a common denominator off which Joan built a personality that combined fun wisdom and empathy to such a degree that meeting her was always an enduring pleasure.

I am very sorry to learn that Joan is no longer with us. I only met her perhaps a couple of times, but she stood out so vividly in my memory. She and Tim were visiting Italy and they had been in Florence. If I remember rightly they had been to Emilio Pucci, the Italian dress designer and she arrived looking so glamorous with a broad-brimmed straw hat. She was so happy with her purchase and that happiness just shone through all she did that day. That is how I will always think of her. Not to mention the way she cared for Tim as he was unable to take in the view, not having a head for heights. Keep smiling Joan, with love.

So sad to learn of Joan’s death, after such a brave battle. Sincere sympathies to Tim and daughters, to Mary, Joe, Nora, Therese, Mona, Eilish and Pat, and to Joan’s extended family on your painful loss. Joan was such a lively, warm, happy person to meet at any time. (No surprise there, given the delightful parents your family had in Angela and Arthur, who would animate any room). She must have been a great teacher. My mother Teresa and father Oliver always appreciated and enjoyed Joan’s visits and (always long) chats when she was in Galway, and Teresa is especially sad at this news.

We O’Rourke children have the fondest memories of dropping into Pearse Street regularly on Sunday evenings during the 1960s, for an alleged five minutes which could become two hours with a bit of bedlam thrown in. The source of delay of course was a lively comparison of greyhound breeding, training and racing notes between the two fathers, each of whom could talk the hind legs off an ass.

All our memories of Joan and the wider McCarrick family are truly happy ones. May Joan’s memory and the gifts she brought to the world be a blessing.

Joan was deputy principal , and for a time, principal, during my early years in Loreto. Joan was so entertaining -full of music and joie de vivre. As a young teacher, I enjoyed her wit and her energy. She loved to share recipes , books , advice and funny stories! She taught my 5th class
(and me!) to play the recorder. I will remember her as a wonderful character and a lovely support to me in my early years as a teacher. Thank you Joan.
