Joan (Josephine) O'Callaghan

I was very fortunate to work with Joan at RtE sport in the 70s. She was a fantastic colleague, and being me being a ‘Brit’ gave me all sorts of wise counsel about the best approach fellow workers not to rub people up the wrong way!! She was a tireless worker, full of good sense and sound judgement. Above all this she was a great friend, and I feel lucky to have so many very happy memories both in and out of RTE. Condolences to Kay, Pat and all her family.

So sorry to belatedly hear of the death of Joan. May she rest in peace. Joan was a marvellous colleague and a great talent in the world of broadcasting. Adieu my friend.

Joan and I shared the same class from Junior Infants to Sixth Class in Newtown School all those years ago. She was bright and chirpy.
Met her many times in later years at Athletics Meetings when she was working in RTE, always had time to say hello and enquire about home.

So sad to read this news, I was very fortunate to meet and work with Joan in RTE as a presenter and then cub sports journalist, she guided me in those early days, I am forever grateful. Kay, The O'Callaghans go back a long way to my childhood in Carron. Perhaps 40 years later Joan popped up one evening in a pub in D2. We had a long chat about all of you and especially Willie struggling with MS. Kay, you have had such sorrow to contend with. Little known fact but your dad was my godfather. God bless you. My own wife passed away in the same place 5 years ago. Out of Dublin for a long time so won't make the wake. My thoughts are with you.
