Dearest family, dearest friends in Christ,
I learnt with sadness the return to heaven of my friend Joan Monks, RIP. I had planned to go and visit her in the nursing home during my visit in Ireland and I have just missed her for few days. I have known Joan from 2007 during our holy pilgrimages to Knock and Achill Island. Joan was the organiser and leader of the pilgrimages I was the spiritual father to accompany the group. We travelled to those holy places several times. We had the rosaries of the day long and confessions on the bus. Joan gave me the image of a woman who is deeply rooted in God’s love and in the profound devotion to our Lady. We will remember you for your great sense of duty and commitment, your respect to the Holy Eucharist and to the priest and your boundless generosity. I celebrated holy mass several times in your house and you knew how to make everybody feel at home.
In a nutshell, I would personally say Joan is one of the loveliest people I have met and who have deeply inspired me especially for the love and the devotion to our Lady. She had a particular attention the poor and needy and has been over the years a support for my missionary work and my priestly vocation by way of prayers and financially.
We will all deeply miss you Joan and may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace!
