Joan O'Shea

To Joan’s family, friends, and all who mourn her,

Sending you my deepest condolences. I knew Joan first and foremost as “Iníon Uí Shé”. She had a very well-deserved reputation for being one of the nicest teachers in Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh Cailíní, and as a child I was very sorry that she was never my “múinteoir” while I was a pupil in the school! I remember her from those days with her cheerful smile and there was frequently beautiful singing emanating from her classroom.

I also recall her beautiful contribution to the choirs at Dennehy’s Cross Church. “Oh the Love of my Lord is the Essence”, “Make my a Channel of your Peace” and “Love is his Word” are three hymns that I associate with Joan. These seem particularly apt because through her warmth and care she spread solace to all those whom she knew were suffering or in need of support.

I will always remember her fondly in my prayers.

Sincere sympathy to you the O Shea family on the death of your beloved Joan.Family meant so much to Joan.You were always spoken of in glowing terms and Joan was so appreciative of all you did for her.
Joan and I met in Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh where for many years Joan nurtured the senior infants(5-6year olds)with kindness, gentleness and patience.She had a lovely way with the young, a special aptitude, teaching was for Joan a vocation.
Having Joan on the staff lifted standards and tone. Joan’s integrity shone through in all her dealings.I often heard Joan referred to as “a saint”.Joan never courted recognition of any sort.She stepped back into the shadows but was first to encourage others to take the laurels.She was humble,loyal and her charitable deeds were private.
When Joan retired she kept in contact via micro mini phone calls, in that short time she elicited the well-being of one’s entire family, offered to pray if requested to. Then in mid sentence the call very often ended and one was left feeling so grateful for knowing Joan. There were no long good byes then or on the day of her final parting. Joan, rest in peace in your eternal reward.

It was a pleasure to have known Joan and to have taught with her in Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh. I have lovely memories of her kindness, her sense of humour, her diligence, her sound advice and her lovely singing voice. Joan kept in touch with me down through the years long after we had taught together. She was one of life’s special people and we will never forget her. Her funeral mass today was a wonderful and well deserved tribute to her and she would have enjoyed the beautiful singing and the sing song at her graveside. Slán abhaile, Joan, a chara agus codail go sámh i gcomhluadar na n-aingeal is na naomh.

Deepest sympathies to Inion Ui Shea's family, she taught me in Senior Infants in Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh and was one of my favourite teachers, she was so gentle, kind and patient and it was always a pleasure to chat with her long after I had left the school and she had retired.
