Joan Prendergast

My heartfelt sympathy to Monica and Mike and all Joan's relatives and friends. Joan lived near me for quite a number of yearsand we went for walks together after school every day and had many a laugh and a cry at times past. She was a wonderful raconteur and with her, teaching history was as if she were telling a story, so easy and spontaneous always. My daughters Eileen and Daniele loved her and treasured her visits to our house.

Many a great night we spent in Joans company. The twice yearly sleepover was always celebrated with a box of black magic and many a story. No doubt she is in the presence of God.

Joan was beautiful in every way ,she had the most wonderful charming manner. I loved to see her coming in to have her hair styled as she always had a great story to tell , she was so interesting.Even though it is a long time since I've seen Joan I never forgot her as she was one of my first customers.May she rest in peace

Deepest sympathy to family and friends. Miss Prendergast taught me Irish and history in the mid ‘70s in the Ursuline Waterford. She extended great kindness and support to me as a pupil and engendered a healthy love of learning. History was a treat with quirky stories by which to recall an event all the while whetting your appetite to learn more. That was the art of her teaching skills. Creating an appetite for learning. I count myself soo lucky to have crossed paths with such a kind and wonderful soul. May you rest in eternal peace Miss Prendergast. And thank you soo much.

Deepest sympathy to all the Prendergast family on the passing of Joan. A very special lady & lovely teacher in the Ursuline Waterford many years ago. Her love of & joy in the Irish language always remains with me & I often share those lovely memories with my grandchildren, maybe not so privileged in these times. In later years I shared many happy golfing hours & friendship with Joan at Waterford Golf Club. The Lord's peace to her now & a very special place in Heaven.

Joan was a senior teacher in St. Angela's when I arrived in '73, green, unsure and knowing virtually nothing. Joan was an inspirational mentor, friend, colleague and teacher. Her breadth of knowledge of History, the Classics and Gaeilge have never been matched. And she was the best fun at a party. Her poems and skits were hysterically funny.
