Joe Corbett

Just found out this awful news. I only knew Joe a little, bumping into him over the years in London and Cork. Always so impressed with his sunniness and charm. A big void left for his family and friends.

My sincere condolences to Joe’s husband Rafi, to Marie & John, Andrea, Deirdre, Mark and all the Corbett family on the sad loss of your beloved Joe. I was honoured to have enjoyed Joe’s wonderful musical talent on several occasions and felt his warm welcome and generosity of spirit.

So many wonderful moments sharing the stage with you and so many memories of your beauty of spirit, your joy of life, your amazing capacity for love and friendship, your talent. The list is endless. I am so glad we met at the Guildhall in March for Rudolf’s reception. You were your lovely, bubbly self and many at that event would have never known the challenges you were going through.

My deepest condolences to Rafi and all the Corbett family. What an incredible send off today, with Joe’s lovely voice resonating in our ears and in our hearts.

Dearest Joe, thank you for being there for me from the beginning over 45 years ago at RIAM and then here in London. You were my inspiration, my mentor, my friend. I owe so much to you. I can't quite take it in but I will cherish the beautiful and fond memories of times spent. His singing at Deirdre’s requiem mass in February was superb. There is an old saying that to sing is to pray twice and Joe accomplished that for many years. Rest in peace Joe.

I was so very sorry to hear about Joe's death. We knew each other as children growing up in Churchfield.
He was always a kind and generous person which is a thing I always liked about him.
My regret is not keeping in touch with him.

May Joe Rest Easy 🌹

Not only was I privileged to work with Joe twice (on The Pirates of Penzance and Morrígan) but he was also a dear friend who encouraged and cheered me on as a fellow artist (as I'm sure he did many others - such was his loving, kind nature).

Joe was a person of the world, but he was also a proud Corkonian, who loved performing at home, particularly on Culture Night (he spoke to me about this many a time) and on St Patrick's Day. Such was the ease and beauty of his voice that he could sing anything, from Irish songs, to musical theatre to opera. He was always very modest but he was and is highly regarded in the UK opera scene, where he made his home and where he performed at the highest levels.

Deepest condolences to Rafi, the Corbett family, his best friend from Guildhall Richard Morris and all his wide circle of family and friends. We all miss him dearly but are grateful to have had the gift of Joe in our lives. .

So very sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He is sadly missed especially in theatrical circles in Cork and worldwide - an amazing operatic Baritone, a charismatic entertainer and all-round lovely human being. My condolences to all his family. Sing with the Heavenly Chorus Joe. RIP
