We met again many years later in a petrol station in Killarney and he very kindly gave us tickets for his show in the Gleneagle Hotel - a great entertainer - a true gentleman! Dearest Ann, girls and all of your family. I am so very sorry for your loss. Joe was a wonderful caring funny man. I have plenty of fond memories of a child from being in his hotel, him playing tricks (like pretending to take his thumb off). Listening to his beautiful mass and I had a little giggle as the priest mentioned Joe and the environment, sweeping leaves in particular. The summer just gone, I was up at your house and you were trying to persuade him in for a rest, but no, Joe had to tidy all the leaves away from the front of the house first before he could settle.
May Joe rest in eternal peace and provide you all with strength to get through the tough times ahead.

The sad passing of the youngest, and the last, of the Cuddy lads of their generation of whom my own father Don was the eldest. Sound Dubs. Fellas that would do you a turn. They shared the same traits and qualities: decency, kindness, thoughtfulness, a love of music and of course that most rare gift, an ability to hold people in thrall. Joe's passing will be mourned by so many and his innate goodness is an example to us all. To quote from the obituary of George Anthony, captain of the Catalpa, "In the summation of his life we have another added to the many illustrations that not much of anything counts in the final reckoning but character."
