Sincere ommisserations to Joe's family from an old school-friend of his now in the mid-West of America. Joe's passing brings to mind our school years together at St. Patrick's College in Swinford where Joe was popular and well regarded, remarkable for his tall and imposing presence, quiet and pleasant demeanor and ready laugh. He had, as all who knew him will recall an unmatched sartorial style - one of our matudinal mainstays under headmaster Fr. Sean Leonard - to recall Joe through the maze of many years arrive to class dressed impeccably in suit and tie. Fair to say, 'he was a class act'. His late mother Anne was on very friendly terms with my own mother engaging, as the fellow said, in convivial colloquy as they did their weekly shopping at Lizzy Ryan's store and snug on Market Street where the ever present Josie Wims kept a kindly and attentive eye as Joe and I ate lunch and Fluff the cat roamed for attention. Joe, I notice passed on August 15th and on the same day many years ago I attended Lizzie Ryans funeral in Co. Longford. I remember it well as it was my birthday. May God grant you the heaven's Joe and me the grace to join you in time to come.
