So sad to hear of Joe's passing. His support and encouragement to a new young choir in 2001 was instrumental in the development of a focus for musical education and experience that lasted for 15 years. Many musicians, singers, conductors and mentors grew and learned in Anam Choir, and much fun was had! Thank you Joe for pushing us to develop after you accompanied us in Santa's Kingdom, and for helping us to record wonderful CDs which will last forever. A gentle humble and gifted man, so generous with his talents and time.

We are heartbroken at the loss of our uncle Joe. Such a wonderful person always speaking highly and with pride of those dearest to him, Mary, Tomás and Liam and their achievements and found great joy in his grandchildren and extended family. Always willing to help others. Professional in every way. We will miss you Joe

He played lots of shows for John for the Theatre Royal reunions, and the most memorable ones were the time he played for my parent's Golden Wedding Celebration and John's Tribute show in the National Concert Hall.

My deepest sympathies on the passing of a true gentleman , Joe Fitzgerald. I had the pleasure of spending many a Sunday singing with Joe's wonderful playing of the organ in Whitefriar Street Church. He was an extremely gifted musician and taught me many things in his kind and gentle manner. I dont think I can recall a Sunday where Joe didn't speak of Mary and all his family. He was immensely proud of his boys and all the grandchildren and would share any new pictures of them on his super tech phone.

I was lucky enough to spend much of my time as a young adult with Joe - his wisdom and advice to me I will be forever grateful for .

You were ,and will be missed Joe.

Joe was a gentleman in every sense of the word. A gifted Musician and such a kind and supportive accompanist. He was always generous, sharing his immense musical knowledge and as a young musician I learned so much from him. He had great stories and made journeys to gigs, waiting in dressing rooms or organ lofts fly by. It was a privilege to have known this beautiful soul. In the words of John O Donoghue

I first met Joe as a child when I used to go see my Dad’s friend Philip Byrne (RIP) perform at the Burlo. Joe always had a welcoming smile & always had time to chat with a music loving child. In later life I was lucky to have Joe accompany me on many occasions & right up until last year, when we shared jokes and laughs about the old days. What a great man. A gentleman in every sense of the word.

Joe was a gifted musician who worked with us for many years and came back every Christmas to accompany the boys at their carol singing. He showed endless patience and kindness and was such an interesting conversationalist. Joe will be greatly missed by the school community who remember his contribution to school life with great affection and appreciation. May flights of angels sing him to his rest.

Our sincerest sympathies to Joe's family and all who loved him. We got to know Joe over the last couple of years through the children's choir at the 10.30am Mass and the Christmas Eve Carol Service. He had such time for and patience with the little ones encouraging them to do their best. He was a gentleman who always used his talents to the full.
