I'm so sad to hear of the sad passing of Joe. He was truly one of life's gentlemen. My thoughts are with Rita, Paul & Karen. My late mum Betty had huge time for Joe & we spent many great nights in Higgins pub !! I'm sure they'll have lots of chats up above xx

It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of Joe Higgins.
We offer our sincere and deepest sympathy to Joe’s family, his wife Rita, and children Paul and Karen and to the extended Higgins family at this time of great sadness for you all.
Joe made a great impact on the business community of Barrack Street when he started his business life in the Town and in transformimg the former “Coyles Bar” into one of the great modern hospitality pubs and B&B’s on the West Side of Athlone in the Eighties and Ninties . Higgins Pub was to become one and join some of the best run and spotlessly clean and comfortable pubs to enjoy a “quiet time out” with family and friends to socialise, meet and chat during his management.
Remembering Joe for his great support for local clubs and organisations during his lifetime in Athlone and particularly the Athlone Sub Aqua Club during it’s modern equipment and development years. We received a great welcome and friendship from Joe and Rita during our visits and social events over the years.
May Joe rest in Eternal peace.
