It is hard to put into words how heartbroken we are over the loss of Joe. We will always remember Joe with his big smile and laugh- always up for the craic and banter! Joe is sound. He saw a box plonked on the pier. Nothing unusual in that but he checked it out, took a photo and texted me. A small act with serious consequences for me. I travelled across the country to retrieve the box. I mention this only because it was the most recent example of his good hearted way of being - his decency and diligence, his skill and his drive, his humour. He was always mindful of my own condition, I am truly humbled by his example. I didn't know if I should send this but I can't get it out of my mind, the timing might not be right, no the timing is definitely wrong, it is all wrong but I want to put it on record while I can.

To Celine, Máirtín, Peadar Éinne, Áine and the Seoighe family,
I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear late on Friday night of the untimely passing of Joe.
There are no words to express the devastation that you are all feeling now and I am so sorry that you all have to go through this - No family should ever experience such heartbreaking circumstances.
Like so many have said before me, Joe was a wonderful human being. He was always very welcoming and inclusive of all people, big and small. He also had a mischievous sense of humour and had that little glint in his eye before he made a joke.
He was deeply aware of the person he was talking to and treated them kindly at all times. It is a sad time for all who knew him and a very sad time for Pobal Inis Oírr.

Take care of each other over the next while, you will need each other.
