So sad to hear of Joe' death. I remember Joe did a commercial course in the Tech which was in Aras Beanntrai at the time. While we were in class we were watching Joe walking down the key with Lynda the love of his life so many wonderful memories of New Street. My sincerest condolences to all the Lane family at this sad time .

I am very saddened to learn of the passing of my old friend and class mate, Joe. I still think to this day (and I suspect I will for my entire life) of the many "educational" visits (Joe's description) we made together to the Spanish trawlers at the pier in Bantry - the fisherman from Galicia loved Joe's company. I will also savour the lifts I gave Joe on the crossbar of my bike as we cycled from school or around the town and beyond. Joe had this deadpan droll sense of humour and it was this humour that often took away the fear and the drudgery of school in the old days - he made us all laugh and everyone in the class loved him. Whether it was going on adventure trips to the woods in the Bantry House estate, hitch hiking to Glengarriff for the afternoon, playing music in the attic in New Street or just telling wild or interesting stories as we walked around town Joe was delightful company to be in. He was just one of those people who was a great character and incomparable one off.
I will miss him, but I will never forget him until the end of my days. I am finding it hard to accept that he is gone.
To Lynda, Mimi, Mike, James, Louise and Alan and all the Lane family please accept my deepest sympathies and the sympathies of the entire O'Riordan family.

Dear Lynda, our dear friends Louise & Tim, Mimi and extended family,

It truly breaks my heart writing this today as I - along with all who knew and loved Joe - prepare to say a final goodbye. Having known Joe for over 20 years now, I have many memories, filled with Irish Christmas dinners, strolls to the local, beach dinners, great banter and many laughs - oh the laughs.

It's still very hard to believe he's gone. Joe was such a great man and full of character - taken far too early, but no longer in pain. I will raise my glass to you Joe on Thursday, as I send all my love and support to your family.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Joe's passing. He really was a special man and I have thoroughly enjoyed all the times that we've met up - in Ireland, in London and here in Perth - over the years. When you chat to Joe you know you are in for a long, measured & thoughtful conversation, usually over a pint or 2. Opposing points of view always get considered and provided in respectful tones. And there was always plenty of laughter when Joe was around.

The only comfort with this sad news is that Joe is no longer in pain - he fought a long and brave battle. I will celebrate the great memories and a life well lived. My thoughts are with everyone who loved Joe.

I worked with Joe in Rowa & when we moved to Cork we shared many the frantic Monday morning dawn drive up & the more leisurely Friday evening drives back. I have fond memories of his time in Dillons Cross and Barnavara and of being transported around the city in his Post Office red Morris Minor. Joe questioned everything but he was great fun and loved telling his stories, few of which were short. But he will have plenty time now to be bringing Murt, Peggy & Derry up to date with our progress down here. At dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

What a beautiful love you shared with Joe , he adored you from the first day he laid eyes on you , he was a very special person and a free spirit ( very rare in the ‘70’s ) Joe Lane was loved by everyone in my family ( including my father who was a hard nut to crack ! ) He brought such fun and hilarity into our home .To this day we often shake with laughter recounting the tales of the most lovable rogue and adorable friend.
