Deepest sympathy to Ann, Paula and the Madden family on the sad passing of your beloved, Joe. He was among the first colleagues I met when I joined the Department in 1976. He couldn't have been more helpful and supportive, attitudes he continued to display throughout our careers. He always impressed with his dynamism, competence and commitment and above all with his warm personality and wit, a real 'feel good' person. May he rest in peace.

We have only just learned of Joe's passing and were so very sad to hear of it.

Joe, as all have commented, was an utter gentleman. Always positive, always encouraging. He had a story for every occasion (some were even true!)

He was a great supporter of the Dept's drama group, Parnassus, and continued to attend our shows long after he retired.

He will be very sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Sincere condolences to Joe's family. Back in the day, my brothers (Kevin and Nick) and I used to meet up with Joe on Friday evenings after work in Madigan's The Long Bar, for a few pints. Reading the tributes, the word "gentleman" is repeated over and over, because that's exactly what Joe was - a gentleman of the highest order. So sorry to hear of his passing - may he rest in peace....
