I am deeply saddened to have just heard of Joe’s passing. My sincere condolences to Phil, Oisin & Niamh and extended Mc Cabe family. Joe and I went to Marian College together. We enjoyed going to both International and club matches in Lansdowne Road. And we holidayed together in the early seventies in Greece and Ibiza… In recent years we met occasionally for coffee opposite his office in Clontarf. I can’t believe that Joe has passed… May he rest in eternal peace…

I worked with Joe in GWD and i remember at the time when i was working for one of their subsidiary Companies i was given the opportunity to move to the Auctioneering side. I was unsure about it and i spoke to Joe and his exact words were " if i can sell houses you can" And the rest is history. He was one of lifes true gentlemen. Thank you Joe and may you Rest in Peace.

I was very sorry to hear about Joe. He was always nice to me when I was over in the house, back when I used to call over to play with Oisín. I remember he gave me a football, and told a funny story about his friend hiding a car part in his bed. I hope Phil, Oisín and Niamh are doing as well as can be expected. Sincere condolences.
Joe was the founder of The Sunday Walkers, he brought together a group of strangers and neighbours who have become the best of friends. We all loved his style and wit, his gentle nature and love of (our) dogs. Happiest on the Seafront or outside The Sandbar with coffee and cakes greeting people as the Lord Mayor might.
We will miss you, our friend.

Joe was a great friend to our family.
He was unswervingly honest, hard working, the kindest of gentlemen, Vernon Avenue’s most sartorial dresser, loyal Clontarf rugby supporter and as stalwart as his beloved Bull Wall in caring for his community.
We enjoyed his great humorous company for many years.
