Joe was very well liked by so many of us at West Ham College of Technology, London back in the 60s. A very earnest Lecturer of Economics and so approachable after the lectures. We had so many chuckles with him on all manner of subjects. I regret I never managed a trip to see him in Donegal, but old student day’s friends Bob and Tim kept me posted on their visits.
God bless you Joe for your kindness to us all. We shall always remember you fondly.

Joe was a true intellect and admired for his incredible mind and wit. He had a massive and lasting impact on the many students he taught over the years at Ulster University. Joe's door was always open, his desk piled high with papers as he sat in a cloud of pipe smoke, always eager to give guidance. A true gentleman and the most humble person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He will be sorely missed.
