Joe MEE

I was very saddened to hear of Joe's recent passing, having been fortunate enough to have been a pupil of his at DLS Dundalk in the mid 80s.As a teacher, he was without peer. He rarely used any English words in his Irish class and somehow elevated our native language to something higher, at a time in history when it wasn't cool. He managed to ignite a lifelong interest in Irish for me personally, for which I'll be forever grateful. It was similar in Music... his casual references to the Beatles and the Stones were deliberately intended to allow us expand our horizons. Deepest condolences to his family. RIP

I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of sweet Joe. He always had such stories that reminded me of my dear grandad. I was so fond of him. Joe was so clever and lived life so well. I can only hope to experience half the adventures he did.
And to Joe, you’re with your Anne again! Tell her I said hi. Rest easy. You are together forever.

What a lovely man joe was he was clever witty gentle caring and steady in life .
Himself and Ann reared a beautiful family. Had many a fun chat with them when i was passing their house on the horse him in garden and ann sometimes directing operations! Great person and great neighbour. You ll be missed Joe mee.

To Dara and to all of Joe's surviving family, I was so sorry to hear of your dad's passing.

He taught me in the DLS in the 1980s and I think of him with great fondness and gratitude. He treated the kids and young adults in his care with respect and dignity at a time when that was not always commonplace. He was a warm and safe presence there for me, certainly, and he went above and beyond the call of duty to instill in us a love of Irish and music and to help us get through our exams...and all done with humour and a twinkle in his eye!

My deepest sympathy to the Mee Family wishing them all the courage and strength to endure this sad and difficult time.

I still treasure my memories of Mr Mee when he was first my Christian Doctrine teacher and later my Irish teacher, away back in the “pre-fab” days of the “old” DLS (1974-1977).
He was dedicated, inspirational, always on “our side” with his encouragements and belief in our abilities. I thank him for that today.

I still remember some of the passionate discussions we had with him just about everything, - society, the world, and life at large.

True to his character Mr Mee had the kindness to come to our house and sympathise with my family when my mother died not long before our final exams.

I feel privileged and honoured to have known Mr Joe Mee.

As a young teacher he was a truly wonderful mentor to me.
