I remember Joe as a lovely combination of gentleman and rogue, may he rest in peace.

Shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Joe’s untimely death. My condolences to all Joe’s family and friends. Joe was a kind, decent and thoughtful person, with a penetrating and curious mind. I met him in Cuan Mhuire where he made such a difference to so many, and was always thinking of the welfare of others. He was a genuinely good man: he will be missed and mourned. Rest in peace a chara.

Happy days with Joe Joe around Douglas for many of my teenage years.. I had the pleasure of winning a county title with him in 1982, we were young carefree and the world was our oyster! Although we took different paths in life and I hadn’t seen him for many years the standout memory I have of Joe Joe was his infectious laugh, a laugh that will never be equaled and never forgotten.. It was with great sadness that I learned of Joe's passing. My deepest condolences to all of Joe's family. Joe and I were in school together. We played on the same teams, in school and in the Douglas GAA.
Joe was a great full back and a natural leader. He was captain of most of those teams.
Even though, that was 40 years ago, I have great memories of Joe.
I hope that he has now reached his final destination, in Heaven.
I promise to keep Joe and all of you in my prayers.

Very sorry to hear of joes passing - I came up against him in the 80’s & 90’s when he was with Con & WaterPark.. he was a top player and an exceptional scrummager - luckily for me he was never my direct opponent..

It was with Heartfelt sadness that i learned of Joe's passing. Sincerest and Deepest Sympathy to Oonagh, Julie, Fergal and Nick that you have lost Joe Joe.

I had the absolute honour of working with him in his sporting life. He was such a talent in all the sports that he played. He had such a cheeky smile when something went wrong,but he was such a loveable rogue,we would have a good laugh about it afterwards. Joe was also a great leader on the Gaa pitch and it was his leadership that helped Douglas Gaa win their first under 16 Premier A County Football title in 1982. A talented hurler, he also won county titles in his time with Douglas.

While we, as friends of Joe will carry the memories of his battles on the sports fields, it is now that we reflect on the great loss he will be to his Daughter, Niamh, his immediate family and many many friends. May you all carry the strength, that Joe Joe showed on many occasions during his sporting life at this difficult time. He will, for me, in my coaching career be one of the best i had the pleasure to train. Rest well my friend until the next game.
