I was very saddened to hear of Joe’s passing. He was a wonderful friend to my late husband, Tommy, and the many evenings and weekends they spent together on The Happy Captain brought him so much joy. Joe’s generosity, warmth, and good humor made their time on the water truly special.

We are grateful to have had him as a friend and will always remember the great times they shared. He will be fondly remembered.

St. Mary's GAA extends our sincere condolences to the O’Brien family on the passing of Joe. Along with his brothers Paddy and Jackie, Joe was a member of St. Mary’s teams of the 60’s, reaching senior finals in ‘61, ‘62 and ‘67 and annexing that highly sought after Carmelite Cup in 1962 playing at centre half back when St. Mary overcame Rosemount on a scoreline of 2 : 9 to 7pts. Joe was also heavily involved in the administration side of St. Mary’s serving as Chairman in the late 60’s. To Joe’s Daughter’s Pauline, Francis, Maria and extended family, St. Marys wishes to extends our deepest sympathies. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam Dílis.
