Although I aware of Joe's illness, I was genuinely saddened to hear of his passing. He was a long time family friend, both my parents, Con and Carmel, (RIP) were incredibly fond of both Joe and Mary.
Personally, I remember as a young teenager being involved in a very small way during Joe's first foray into local politics and getting the princely sum of 4 pounds for my efforts, no mean sum in the 70's! He was incredibly generous in every way and will be warmly remembered by the Twomey family from Castle Close Ave.

Deepest sympathy to the family on such a sad occasion . Joe played a major part in organising the Pharma sector when Branch Sec of the Cork No4/APT branches when it was a difficult challenge. Many in that industry today enjoy the fruits of his and others (past and present) efforts to improve the conditions of those working in that sector. May Joe now rest.

It’s with great sadness and reflection that I hear of the passing of Joe. Our family memories of Joe, span back to the time when Joe, tirelessly championed the Labour Party initiative in Blarney, (the minority but he was resolute), a vision that was supported but my own late parents, Con and Carmel Twomey, (RIP), formally of Castle Close Avenue.
