Condolences to Avril and the O Keefe family on the death of Joe.

I was lucky enough to know him from his Windsor hotel days as well as from Glengarriff and Lorrha . He was such a people person , always up for a laugh and banter and we had some great times over the years. He was such a wonderful host, I remember over 20 years ago visiting with our 3 youngest children and we stayed in his house in Glengarriff. He treated us to a massive breakfast and a fantastic boat trip around Glengarriff afterwards - a memory we will always cherish. The soccer parties in Portland House on New Year’s Eve were famous events and loved by all!

Joe , you will be remembered for your kindness and benevolence towards people , and especially kind to my late mother in law Sally O Donoghue .

Rest in Peace to one of the kindest men I have ever met. Joe gifted me my Connemara pony Tammy 14 years ago solely based on the fact my grandfather used to collect him for Kiskeam football matches. He was so generous and he will always be remembered.

Cork County GAA Board wishes to extend our deepest sympathy to Avril, Mary, Billy & Brendan on the sad occasion of the passing of Joe R.I.P.
Joe was a member of the famed first Cork All Ireland winning Minor Football team of 1961 and I met him at their reunion function on September 24th last in Cork . Cork GAA presented him with his 'long lost' medal on that night. It was a wonderful and nostalgic occasion. We are greatly saddened to hear of his sudden passing and send our condolences to his family and his native club Kiskeam.

Dear Avril,
I am deeply sorry for your loss.
I wish to send you all my thoughts and know that I am thinking of you at this difficult time. Joe was a great friend of mine. We enjoyed working together in the Talbot Hotel. I fondly remember our trip to Portumna. I also had the chance to chat with Joe on the phone a few weeks back. We went looking for his boat at Terryglass in August.
