We were very sorry to hear of Joe's untimely death. Sincere sympathies to all his family, friends, neighbours & fishing collegues. Joe was a gentleman & a pleasure to meet; he always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. He had a positive outlook on life and loved the sea. He knew every inch of Kenmare Bay & loved recalling stories of seine boat fishing at Blackwater, of ships that sank in the bay & that steam ships once left Blackwater for America in the 1800s.
He was very knowledgeable about tides & currents and often assisted rescue & recovery services in that line. He loved meeting tourists at Blackwater Pier and loved going to Blackwater Tavern for the music. He always went on holidays with the Blackwater group & was always ready to sing a few songs. He was plesant easy-going, witty & loved by all and will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace eternal Amen

We will miss Joe always up for a song loved Davie’s Ceili and never missed music in the Tavern. Loved joining us on our annual holiday with Blackwater Women’s Group and was looking forward to his trip this September but God had something else planned.

Sincere sympathy to all of Joe Jim's extended family. I was so sorry to hear of his sudden and untimely passing , having only had a long and interesting chat with him early last week . He was such a kind and respectful man and many the long and meaningful chats we have had over the years. I came across this prayer which seems fitting for Joe Jim.
"God Grant that he may live to fish until his dying day, And when it comes to his last cast, that he most humbly pray; When he is in the Lord's safe landing net, he will be peacefully asleep and that in His mercy that he be judged, as perfectly to keep.
