Warm, generous and always helpful, he went out of his way to help in any way that he could. I remember our chats very fondly. One of life's true gentlemen. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Carol, Ken and extended family on the passing of Joe. I worked with Joe for over 25 years in TCD. He was a brilliant colleague and friend who was hugely respected by all. Always extremely helpful to our pharmacy undergrads whenever they needed his input. He was also hugely popular with our postgraduate students and I witnessed this at first-hand over many years. He was their Mr Dependable on many occasions throughout their studies, always willing to help them in any way he could. May Joe rest in peace.

I always admired his unflappable and good-humoured approach to lab work and his ability to take on board new scientific techniques. Generations of pharmacy students benefitted from his skills as did many researchers. We only disagreed over his choice of football club. Joe was unique and sadly they don't make them like him anymore. He will be missed. RIP
