My sincerest sympathies to Gordon, Eileen and the Revington family on your immense loss at the passing of Joe RIP.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h'anam dílis.
To see Joe’s name as Chairman for an out-of-town trip of the Employment Appeals Tribunal always lifted my spirits. It meant the time would fly by in a barrage of great stories, laughter and companionship. If he didn’t know the modest restaurant with the best fish, we had to find it; memorably, we traipsed Castlebar one evening to find salmon from the Moy. I now realise he was more than 20 years my junior, but I never felt it: young, old, country or town, Joe made everyone feel good and brought out the best in them. That included those bringing and defending cases before the Tribunal. Everywhere we went from Cavan to Kerry, Joe was clear, wise, and scrupulously fair. An EAT judgement he chaired in one tiny case went all the way to the Supreme Court and was vindicated.
Goodbye, best road buddy ever. Good luck on your new journey. I am sure by now you’ve been approved by the biggest Tribunal of all, and you have them laughing up there already.
My deepest condolences to all his family.

I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. Phil and myself offer our deepest condolences to his wife and family. There are so many memories. They stretch back to college, the Hist and many years as a colleague at the Bar. In later years I always treasured our encounters, be they court appearances or purely social. His quixotic, impish humour was never far away, no matter how formal the circumstance. God rest Joe's good and gentle soul.
My condolences to Faye and Melody and the Revington family on the sad passing of Joe; he was giving off his knowledge, and his collegiality and generosity will be a memory.
My condolences to Gordon and the Revington family on the passing of Joe. My Joe Rest in Peace.
My sincere sympathies to Joe’s family upon his premature passing.
I have fond childhood memories of Joe in our house - mainly around the elections of the 80’s and summer birthday parties with the girls. Always a pleasure to meet and interested in politics, people and Kerry. I’m sure he will be immediately recruited to a “Kerry kitchen cabinet” by those already departed. May he rest in peace.
I have had the privilege of Joe's friendship for more than 50 years- since my first week in TCD
when I was harangued with " Hey Brit get me onion sandwiches"- [as if I had ever heard of them!!] from College park.
This was followed by years of fun- Joe not thinking twice about kidnapping my small dog- leaving cryptic messages-"Muffin gone to O,Neils for a pint---Muffin gone electioneering in Kerry"!!
Muffin always came back safe and sound-and that is what Joe represented for me-safe and sound-which i really needed at times in my life.
Joe was the kindest, most supportive ,wisest man i Have ever known - add in compassion, huge intelligence [intellectual and emotional].loyalty,irreverence,delinquency-I could go on.It makes for a wonderful man.
I an going to carry with me the words he said to me many years ago-"Take it for the value Helena"-and what value his friendship has been for me and mine all these years.
Finola,Fay ,Melody and family know i send my heartfelt condolences and share their loss

My sincerest sympathies to Finola, Melody, Faye and the Revington family on the passing of Joe. May he Rest in Peace.
Sincere sympathy to all Joe’s family. His grandparents were very good to me many years ago in Tralee. I knew Joe as a child. His mother was my best friend. I have many happy memories of the family. Deepest sympathy.
It was not easy to hear that Joe in all his generosity and magnificence is no longer. Memories of Trinity in the sixties flood back – student politics and a Gaelic football playing Kerry protestant who sent many over the bar, spreading joy and innocent fun.
Finola – you must miss him greatly and I hope the many memories of this myriad minded man bring some consolation.
In later life when our paths crossed Joe always had a wealth of stories told in an eternal Kerry accent, particularly about politics and always amusing. These days, now gone alas, were far too few.

He was the best known student in Trinity throughout his time there and everyone gravitated to him wondering what he was going to make happen next. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joe, truly a legend in your own lifetime, go forth and claim your rightful place in the annals of Kerry folklore. Finola, Melody, Faye and Gordon thank you for sharing him with us all (not that you had any choice) and for giving him a steadfast anchor and safe harbour when he needed it most. Our deepest condolences. 'When I have crost the Bar"
Joe was such a valued friend and played a huge part in my upbringing. He gave me clear and sound advice, particularly during my secondary school education at St. Columbas College (his old school). He taught me the power of resilience and perseverance throughout my time in Columbas. This has remained a lesson for life for which I will be eternally grateful. On the cricket pitch and the rugby pitch I followed in his footsteps on the same ground. Its a shame we could not go up together one last time to prove how far we had come since Columbas.
My sincere condolences to Finola and family,

Sincere sympathy on Joe's passing , It was a great shock . I played bridge with Joe many times and we always enjoyed our game . He was a very pleasant bridge partner and always gracious . When the opposition came to the table i used to joke and say " Don't ask this man any questions or you'll be paying euros for the response " Joe's reply was " Not euros John guineas "

We will all miss him at the bridge table
Faye, sincere sympathies to you and your family on the loss of your dear father. To newer colleagues Joe was always generous with his invaluable wisdom and vast legal knowledge and will be remembered always for his smile and kindness. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
My deepest condolences to Finola, Melody, Faye, Gordon and extended family. I worked with Joe for many years. He was an exceptional person in every way and a very dear friend. The world will be a little less special without him in it, may he rest in peace.
So sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. Joe was a very good friend to us and we will miss him.

Joe had a wonderful presence about him in court, he was larger than life, and the judges loved him for it. Joe could pull off the most amazing results in cases and other barristers could be heard to comment afterwards on how “lucky” Joe was to get the result he did but, of course, it wasn’t luck at all. Joe had a way about him that other barristers could only dream of and he was always absolutely in tune with the nuances of the way a case was going. It was an absolute joy to watch him perform on his stage and that is how we will remember him – pulling the strings in a court, wig tilted to one side, gown hanging off one shoulder, totally in control but causing mayhem and chaos.

Our thoughts are with Finola, Melody, Faye, Billy and Gordon at this sad time.
So sad to hear of your loss of your dear Joe, sending deep sympathy to you and your family. I lionta De, go gcastar sinn.

If there were Oscars for a life lived Joe would surely get the nomination. I met Joe as a freshman entering Trinity in the late 60's.
