The term "some man for one man" does not do Joe justice. Each time we spoke, I left feeling like I'd learned something that I needed to share with anyone who'd listen.

My sincere condolences Niamh and family. I’m deeply saddened to learn of Joes passing. Such a wonderful guy. I can only take solace in knowing that he is no doubt having some vibrant chats with George and John as he jams away with them.

Very saddened to hear about Joe's sudden and unexpected passing. A lovely guy, full of knowledge, drive and passion. His love of history always shone through whenever I met him. Apologies I could not be there at the service but my thoughts are with you at this time.

I was very saddened when I heard of Joes passing. We grew up together as cousins and we shared many great memories. Like everyone else, Joe shared his love of music with me and introduced me to the beatles and the house martins. We had crab races in loughshinny and explored the caves looking for bats. Joe, you were of course knowledgable on it all, even from a young age.

I am sorry I couldnt be there for the send off today Joe, but I watched online and I could feel the love in that room. Your family and friends couldnt have done more. Thinking of Niamh , Sean, Noinin, My uncle Mick, Tina, Mia and your many, many friends. Sleep well. X

Ah Joe, you've broken our hearts, the music scene in Dublin won't ever be the same, your love for music, particularly The Beatles was what brought me into your orbit, and what a blessed day that was for me, I saw you shine when you were behind your drums, whether at The Cavern or The Olympia, and even more so when you shared with us your incredible knowledge, whether of history or music, it is a little fitting that you leave this planet in the same month as Brian Wilson and Sly Stone, they are lucky to have a musician such as you accompanying them. My love and condolences to Niamh and to all your family, band-mates and friends from Liverpool to Dublin.

Joe gave me a wonderfully detailed historical tour of Dublin (with a Beatles soundtrack of course) which nearly ended with his phone being eaten by a deer in Phoenix Park.

His passion for history, music and his family will never be forgotten.

My deepest condolences to Joe's family and friends on his untimely passing. Myself and Jen Healy stayed with Joe and Niamh many years ago in Antibes. I'll never forget how welcoming they were and what a wonderful time we had. Rest in peace Joe.

Joe, my friend. As heartbroken as I am, I feel blessed for our times together and you will be forever in my thoughts. The Beatles, United, The King Eric, Maradona and our love of Jaws and and so much more, I could not have more in common with anyone else (apart from your love of Elvis Costello but I will give him another go in your honor ). As a bass player and you a drummer, we were a pretty good rhythm section without ever playing together. When we had a some pints together a few weeks ago, and as you left, we drunkenly said we loved each other. I will take that memory and so many more and stick them in my back pocket until we meet again. Go easy my beautiful soulful friend.

To all who loved him - I am so sorry that we have lost Joe. Since the first day we started talking about being in a band together (about the same time I plonked a set of pig's lungs on his desk in Biology in Moyle Park which I think clinched the deal) we shared a love of music and playing it. I was privileged to set up our first band together, rehearsed, wrote, gigged and argued - and we have been friends since, growing even stronger in recent years and all the more sorry for the fact that I missed you by 2 days when we were due to be in the studio again recording. I know You're Only Sleeping, but This Boy wants you back again. Sleep well, buddy, and I repeat the last words we ever said to each other - Love you man.

Joe and I played soldiers back in the 80’s. I remember he introduced me to the Beatles and music in general. He was a fantastic friend to me and so many others. He had an amazing memory and could recall the smallest details with clarity He was a brilliant drummer, a guitarist and even had a great voice. He was a man of many talents. He had a wicked sense of humor and there was no better companion for a pint and giving us all a history lesson. He was one of a kind and he will be missed forever. Rest in peace Joe.

Very sad to hear about Joey's passing. Everytime i met Joey in the past 30 yrs or more he was always the true gentleman. We always had a good laugh.
