Joe left his mark on Ennis with his book on Hermitage in conjunction with Clare Roots Society. He captured in photos and script the history of the residents and the background to the development of the area. What I can put in a condolence that could adequately show a proper appreciation of what Joe Shannon was.He life was built around Maureen who he was so proud off and then Fiachra and Elaine who were the centre of his life and there future and destiny.I suppose we were friends for over 40 years and I was the beneficiary of Joe's craftmanship on many occasions,if there was a problem he would sort it or knew who would sort it.He had a lifelong association with Sport with his Town and with his area of Ennis.Joe was a happy winner but most importunately had the rare quality of being appreciaitive and understanding of the losers pain.He will be rightly remembered as a wonderful ambassador for Ennis and Clare and all the projects he involved in for the good of his area and for his town.He was a local national and international ambassador for over 30 years at the Old Ground Hotel.I will remember you Joe as a real trusthworthy friend who I was lucky to meet in life.You have richly deserved your heavenly reward.
