Condolences to Joe's family on his passing. We boxed together in UCD boxing club under Tommy Butler coach in late 60s,he loved his boxing,he was a unique and pleasant chap.Often wondered where he went from there, got a shock when I recognized his photo in paper after his tragic death. Glad he had such a successful career in education, sport and community affairs.

Deepest sympathy
My entire family were shocked & so sad to hear of Joe passing - he was just one of the best a great friend & colleague who had a huge generous heart - what he gave the students lasts forever. He was the honorary member of the PE Dept. The students just loved him and for good reason he was good & kind to them always. He was larger than life and our children still remember going to lots of the Skipathons, at our wedding I still remember him arriving along with the poitín in a holy water bottle for my mother. We will miss you Joe - may you rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to all the Vaughan family and so sorry not to be able to attend any of the events to celebrate his wonderful caring life - he was ‘life coaching’ long before the fancy term was invented. Breda (Coláiste Dhúlaigh) & family.

Sincerest condolences to the Vaughan, Browne and Roche families on the passing of Joe. Joe was a distant cousin of my father and in 1994, at the request of my aunt, he met me at the door of Colaiste Dhulaigh to reassure me that he would be there to help as I started in the college. I have since gone on to teach there myself and I often remember his kindness, as we stood at the porter's office that day. May he rest in peace.
I never had a really good experience in primary school. But that changed when i went to the tech. Two teachers stood out for me, Joe Vaughan was one of them. Rip Joe.
Deepest sympathy to Máiread and all of the Vaughan family on the passing of Joe. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to family and friends. I worked with Joe for many years in Coláiste Dhúlaigh. I can safely say that Joe was one of a kind. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann. He was a powerhouse for the promotion of sport and fitness. He had a huge positive influence on many students and was a trusted mentor.
Joe played on many a staff team and never gave less than 100%. He was a true believer in "heart" and the ability to persevere even when things looked black for a team.
Joe was a proud Clare man, proud of his family and community. He will be sadly missed. Níl sa tsaol seo ach naíscoil na síorraíochta. Slán abhaile Joe.

Condolences to everyone associated with Joe Vaughan. Joe and I met a number of times over the years when promoting Gaelic Football in our respective schools, Colàiste Dhùlaigh C.C. agus Jobstown C.C. At knockout stages each of us was anxious to prevail but for me it was always special to meet Joe. His warmth and humanity shone through.

With deep sadness we learned of the sudden passing of our teacher & good friend Joe. He was a mentor & friend to many of us who knew him in his work as a teacher and coach in Colaiste Dhulaigh. Anyone who knew Joe would agree he was a gentleman and scholar & above all the very finest human being you would be likely to come across. Knowing Joe was a pleasure and an honour. Joe was a legend, changed so many people’s life’s, steering them in the right direction.
He was my class teacher, mentor, coach and a good friend after leaving school, so many memories created from boxing matches in the classroom, tipping out before the end of class to the stairs to catch the the students who he wanted for boxing or Gaelic football, trips to the Aran Islands with our class and Kinnity Co Offaly every second year for the hurling.
Thank you so much Joe

Are you going to do the boxing?
A man with shoulders as wide as the corridor we were standing in hulking over me, nose battered into his face, big red cheeks – but never threatening. His demeanour was always friendly and encouraging.
For three years in a row, Joe asked me that same question. And every year, I said “Yeah Joe, I am in” – not out of fear, but out of the inspiration he gave me.
Joe, you will never know the strength your encouragement gave me. I am certain my experience was not unique. You helped shape the person I am today. Your guidance to me and to so many others is immeasurable.
I am so sad to be writing this as a memorial instead of telling you in person. God bless you Joe, may you Rest in Peace.
