My sincere condolences to Veronica and family on the passing of the wonderfully effervescent person that was John. I was privileged to have been a witness to John's many roles in Howth GC, and if you ever want to know what the term "lit up the room" really means you only had to be in attendance at one of John's Monday Nighter prize events. The majestic strut, the silence; the shining face; the big smile; and his unbridled delight when he announced there were "NO BIRDIES"; his personal trademarks.
He never failed to raise the temperature of the room - resulting in unfettered hoots for both winners and losers. John's presence will be sorely missed by all but for many we will retain an image of a genial soul with a twinkle in his eye and a life long devotion to be of assistance where ever he could. Gone but not forgotten. RIP
— Michael O'Neill
