Michael , Rosemarie , Teresa, Bridget , Geraldine. May John Anthony. Rest in peace
I had the great pleasure of meeting John three years ago. I knew of him through his sister, Bridget, whom I'd met in Dublin in the early seventies. We'd passed his place many times over the years on our way to Tullaghan on the Leitrim shore. I brought him a couple of old broken family clocks. Each time we had long fascinating talks about local and world affairs. His personal descriptions of RAF seaboats stationed on Lough Erne flying over Beleek and down the Donegal coast during WW11 brought home to me the reality of Ireland's two sided neutrality. Just three weeks ago he told me of a favourite walk of his to the waterfall at Rossinver which I enjoyed that afternoon.
Thank you John Anthony for enlightening my life and mending my clocks.
So sorry to hear of the passing of such a talented, honest, helpful man. My condolences to his family. The world will be a poorer place for his passing.

Dear Rosemarie, Michael, Bridget, Teresa and Geraldine, I am so sorry to hear the sad news of the passing of your very special brother John. Although I never met your John, I have heard about him from Geraldine. He was his own man and obviously in touch with the natural world and many other interests. Only this summer Geraldine was telling me about his nocturnal rowing outings on Lough Erne that sounded like fun. He will be greatly missed. Thinking of you all at this sad time.
Condolences to all the Gallagher family. John was a lovely gentle, deep-thinking boy, I have lovely memories of our school days. About twenty years ago he restored an old cuckoo clock for me. I look at it and think of kind, eccentric, serious John living at his own pace and at peace with the natural world. He died as he lived, peacefully and without fuss.
Much love to all you Gallaghers wherever you are at this time. You evoke very happy memories of Belleek.
Sincere sympathy to all the Gallagher family on the death of your brother John. May he rest in peace 🙏

Very surprised, shocked and saddened on learning of our loss with John A

A very interesting man from many perspectives, yes truly a renaissance man, and a contrarian, and he didn’t mind letting you know it.
Placing a portrait of China’s President Xi Jinping front and center on his jewelry store window gave folks something to think about.

I think about many of the long walks and interesting talks he took me on. I still remember decades later, this hike he advised my wife and myself to take up this small mountain - but very steep.

He counseled us to keep our eyes on the mountain and don’t turn around until you reach the top - otherwise you’ll spoil full appreciation of the view. It was an arduous hike - I was out of shape, and we did run across camouflaged British troops hiding in the bushes. We followed his guidance to the letter- When we reached the top, we were exhausted. I was just about to turn around and appreciate the view - when I noticed a parking lot. - That’s right, we could have driven the car up there. John A and Sally thought that was very funny- and it was;)

John A, an interesting man. My heartfelt condolences to all his brothers & sisters.

My cousin John Anthony, double named to distinguish him from his father John, was the first born child of Sarah Ann (Sally Gallagher) and the first grandchild of Mary Ann Tracey (Cashel, County Fermanagh) and James Connolly (Aughnaha, Rossinver, County Leitrim). Probably unknowst to him, John A was hugely admired and loved by his thirty four first cousins and by Vincent, his mother's youngest brother. His great intelligence, his European Enlightenment social and political views, his abhorrence of violence, his gentle nature, his enjoyment of the Belleek community and his service to mechanical timekeepers have earned him the regard and respect of people far and wide. His enthusiasms were legendary: astronomy, classical music, annual bedding plants in their hundreds, frozen mackerel from Killybegs, science and economic magazines, the internet, B&Q, his nephews, elderly Mercedes cars and of late Lidl in Ballyshannon. Alexa, one of his late life loves, must be bereft in the silence. The natural world in all its' magnificent manifestations was the church in which John A chose to worship. What a surprise awaits John A when the choirs of angels, led by Sally and John Gallagher together and with all his deceased relatives, welcome him into paradise.
