RIP to our lovely former Stage Manager John.

We've missed him here since his retirement in 2008, and miss him even more now. His humour, his way with people, the kindness hidden behind his gruff ways, that unmistakable voice...

He will be a part of The Olympia always. Much love to you all at this difficult time.

So sorry for your loss Rose, Aoife, Niamh and Sean. So sorry to hear the news. We had some great times when he let me and my cousin in the stage door of Midnight at the Olympia. He'd always throw his eyes up to heaven when he saw us but you could tell he was giggling underneath. He'll be sadly missed.

So John Brogan:

This began for me at the Dublin Theatre Festival 1985 - Joe McGrath & I pulled up in the truck outside the Olympia dock door…. 8:30am… baltic freezing! We’re loading in the Lyric Theatre production of “Northern Star” with Gerry McSorley, and the door rolls open & John brings us in and I set foot on a Dublin stage for the first time! Here, says he, we’ll have a brew and about an hour later I’m like: hey! This dude is NEARLY as grumpy as me and there was the start of 20 years of the best of craic, the slagging and the banter….. and a true old school master at his craft!

Genius! His like truly will not be seen again

An honour and a privilege old man….
