John Brophy

Real sorry to hear of Mr Brophy's(that's what I knew him as)passing.he was a really, really nice gent.i started wearing glasses for the TV and blackboard when I was about 7.and since then until I got laser eye surgery maybe 5 or 10 years ago The Brophy's were my optician.

For 10 years I got glasses in Brophy's until I got contact lenses at the age of 17 and I remember very well Mr. Brophy helping me to use the contact lenses.he was very good and very patient as I tried to get the contact lenses in.it took a few sessions till I got up to an acceptable level of skill to to put the contacts in my eyes.

I then continue for another roughly 10 years to get contacts and glasses from the Brophy family.they were all very nice.Mrs Brophy (as I knew her as).and their lovely daughters Helen and Teresa.they gradually took over and held on to Mr. Brophy's level of care and attention to detail.i'm sure the business is in very safe hands.

Once again so sorry to hear of Mr. Brophy's passing and sympathy to the whole family.i'm sure there is a special place for Mr. Brophy in heaven.

I belatedly heard of Jacks death we were in the same year in Kevin St a small group we got to know each other wellJack was a kind and caring person always asking questions
Later meeting him and his lovely daughters at lectures he was always first up with his hand still asking questions
He will be a great loss to all who knew him

Dear Teresa and Helen. I am very sad to read of John's passing. He was always such a gentleman , professionally and personally. In a world where events unfold quickly, he always made time for people. He had a lovely smile and manner and was always courteous. He truly was a gentleman. I was lucky enough to meet him at many events over my 38 years in optics , and i always admired his keenness to.learn and improve. He gave our profession superb example of how to treat everyone respectively. I wish i had told him in.person of how respected he was, and how inspiring too. Sadly Covid stopped us all meeting in person and i never got to see him. My sincere sympathy....Margaret Barrett

Very sorry to hear of John's passing. I had the privilege of spending my 6 month college placement with John and Pat in 2004. It's no exaggeration to say I was welcomed in and treated as part of the family, like many students before and since then. Above all else, I learned from the respect John showed to all his patients, and how people responded to his genuine decency and professionalism. He was a true gentleman. I wish Pat, Teresa, Helen and family all the best at this sad time.
