John Burke

My sincere sympathy to all Johns family and extended family and friends on the death of John.
I remember him so well from back in the days of yore when we all attended Ballygar school and where he was one of the strongest and best of us all playing football. I have often thought about him and wondered where-ever he might be and now suddenly I hear he has left us and all too soon.

My sincere sympathy to the Burke family during this time of sad loss. I have so many good memories of John from all through my growing-up years and after. I remember so well watching him in the Two Mile House jersey clean a football out of the air with the best of them. I have vivid memories of his enthusiastic encouraging sessions during my own earliest GAA learning years in that same Two Mile House jersey - how to take a clout, how to stand your ground, how to do a drop-kick correctly, etc. Fast forward to the early eighties - he would again provide the helping hand when he connected me in with the Longford football team in New York. There was a unique kindness and helpfulness in John - and in so many ways he lived a life 'for others'. Another abiding memory I have is of that sly good humor he had and how he loved to get others to laughing. I will miss seeing him around, especially around Two-Mile-House church where he showed up so often. My thoughts go out to Fidelma and Michelle; to Helen, Willie, Jimmy, Frankie, Rita and Paul; and to the rest of that extended family of his - as you deal with the gap left by his going on ahead like this. I will be remembering him when I take myself aside for a prayer, "Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal anois".

So sad to hear the passing of your dear Dad Fidelma & Michelle. When I think of John I just smile. I have the most amazing memories of him in his small golf car driving it from the back seat, his uncontrollable Elvis moves when dancing but mostly just that big smile and hug that always greeted you. He was a great family man who adored you all. John was certainly one of life’s treasures. Visting Aunty Trudy & John are some of my fondest childhood memories. Rest in peace John.

It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of dear John RIP.
He was a great , gregarious and hilarious character. A gentle giant of a man and brilliant company at a match or a night out.
He was also a wonderful , kind , generous and selfless human being .
Himself and Trudy (RIP) were incredibly supportive , kind and helpful to numerous younger Irish greenbacks arriving in New York in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s . Unsong heroes .
I was one of those lucky enough to have benefited and will remain forever grateful .
