John Caffrey

So, so sorry to hear of Caff's death while I was away. He brightened a room just by walking into it with his big smile and his twinkling eyes. Always in good humour, loved a funny story and a good joke - we shared many during my time in the IFJ. His infectious laugh was one of his trademarks !! He was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word, a wonderful colleague and a consummate professional. Rest in peace, Caff. My deepest sympathies to Roisin, Jack and his family.

My sincere condolences to Róisín, Jack and all the Caffrey family. I just loved John's mischievous sense of humour. As he would pass by your desk in IFJ, there would be some hilarious comment. I particularly loved Ash Wednesday when John would tell you he had given up sky diving or pogo jumping for Lent! I will remember him fondly as an absolute gentleman and an amazing photographer. I learned of John's passing with great sadness, mixed with happy memories shared. I'd covered Agriculture and we'd regularly meet at markings and we always had fun. We could and did imbibe a "Vera" (or two!) - John's rhyming with Vera Lynn - when our jobs were done. My condolence to John's family, friends and connections. RIP.

Roisin, Jack and family, I am truly shocked to hear this very sad news. John's warm personality, generous nature, twinkle in the eye and time for everybody are the hallmarks of a wonderful character. I carry fond memories of our NFA/IFJ days in Earlsfort Terrace and the RAF club. No doubt John and my late sister, Nano (ex IFJ) are having a good natter about days long gone.
